About The Position

Join a new, growing, multidisciplinary team working at the intersection of machine learning, hardware, and software. The team is building foundational technology for Apple’s next generation of AI products, spanning high-level applications through low-level physics. As a Senior Software Engineer, you will build the iOS- and macOS-based, low-latency application layer of a data collection and research system. This infrastructure turns real-world signals into data used to train and validate Apple AI products. You will design and build middleware as well as contribute to downstream applications that use it, owning implementation from architecture through coding, debugging, and performance tuning. The role involves close collaboration with firmware, data, and research teams, and use of AI-assisted development tools as part of everyday engineering work.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Engineering.
  • At least 5 years of hands-on software development experience and a track record of shipping production code.
  • Solid working experience in Python and at least one of C++, Objective-C/C++, or Swift.
  • Comfort working across platforms and environments, including shared code, build, and deployment.
  • Strong programming fundamentals and the ability to work across the stack from systems-level code to application logic.
  • Proven experience building low-latency or performance-sensitive applications, such as data pipelines or streaming systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to use advanced AI coding tools such as Claude Code, Copilot, Cursor, or similar in daily engineering practice.
  • A portfolio of delivered projects demonstrating independent ownership and technical depth.
  • Strong communication skills and comfort working in a small, fast-moving team building novel systems.

Nice To Haves

  • Professional experience in all core languages: Python, C++, Objective-C/C++, and Swift.
  • macOS and/or iOS development experience.
  • Familiarity with sensor capture, including video or audio, and multi-stream synchronization.
  • Familiarity with machine learning and inference, whether on-device or through pipeline integration.
  • Experience with data collection or research tooling, instrumentation, or test-vehicle-style software.
  • Background in embedded, firmware-adjacent, or hardware-integrated software.

Responsibilities

  • Build infrastructure for Apple AI products by developing the data collection and research system’s application layer.
  • Design and build low-latency middleware components for iOS and macOS applications supporting data collection and research workflows.
  • Own end-to-end implementation, including architecture, coding, debugging, and performance tuning across the application layer.
  • Contribute to the design and implementation of downstream applications that consume the middleware.
  • Write robust, production-quality code in C++, Objective-C/C++, and/or Swift for performance-critical and system-level components, and Python for tooling, data processing, and automation.
  • Collaborate with firmware, data, and research teams to ensure middleware reflects real-world device and sensor behavior.
  • Use AI-assisted development tools for code generation, debugging, test authoring, and faster iteration.
  • Participate in design reviews, code reviews, and architectural decisions for the broader system.
