Senior Software Engineer

JLL•Chicago, IL
•$162,700 - $199,300•Onsite

About The Position

JLL is deploying AI agents across HR functions, including recruiting, employee services, HR operations, benefits, payroll, and the systems that support them. The Senior Software Engineer owns a specific HR tower as part of a one- or two-person engineering team. The central AI Center of Excellence provides methodology, platform, and patterns, while HR teams provide operational problems and subject-matter expertise. The engineer turns those needs into production agents and MCP integrations, then hands mature applications to other engineers as they stabilize. Engineers are expected to use AI tools as a primary part of their workflow, creating hooks, skills, workflows, and automations that help deliver safely to production. This role emphasizes leverage through AI rather than headcount. The position is on-site in Chicago, Illinois, and does not provide visa sponsorship; candidates must be authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.

Requirements

  • Experience shipping production agents using Claude Agent SDK, MCP, or an equivalent stack.
  • Production coding experience in at least one of Python, Node, or .NET, with comfort moving across the others.
  • Full-stack engineering experience covering modern frontend development using React, Angular, or an equivalent with TypeScript/JavaScript; backend services and REST APIs; OAuth, SSO, or JWT authentication and authorization; and automated unit, integration, and end-to-end testing.
  • Experience deploying and operating production workloads on AWS, Azure, or GCP, including compute, managed databases, storage, secrets management, networking basics, monitoring, and logging.
  • Experience building and maintaining automated CI/CD build, test, and deployment pipelines, containerizing with Docker, and using infrastructure as code such as Terraform, CloudFormation, or Bicep.
  • Experience working with relational, NoSQL, object/blob, vector, and document data stores.
  • Experience operating end to end as a one-person team, from design through shipping, support, and handoff.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and comfort working directly with non-engineers.
  • Pragmatic judgment about when to ship, harden, or hand off work.
  • Systems thinking focused on failure modes, with ownership of AI-generated code.
  • Comfort with tasking and running multiple agents in parallel as part of a daily workflow.
  • Authorization to work in the United States without visa sponsorship.

  • Build and ship agents for HR in close partnership with HR subject-matter experts and operators.
  • Set up MCP servers and connectors, initially in pre-production and then through Critical Design Review into production.
  • Bootstrap skills, integrations, and evaluations on JLL’s AI platform, including its LLM gateway, shared RAG services, and MCP toolchain.
  • Conduct workshops with HR teams and translate their workflows into agent skills.
  • Share patterns, anti-patterns, and platform gaps with the Center of Excellence to help future engineers work more effectively.
  • Own work end to end, including design, delivery, support, and handoff.

Benefits

  • 401(k) plan with matching company contributions.
  • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision care.
