Senior Software Engineer

Fluxcap•New York City, NY
•Hybrid

About The Position

FluxCap is hiring a hands-on individual contributor to build software that helps lawyers connect the law, evidence, and strategy in complex litigation. The engineer will work directly with the CTO, founders, and legal engineers, owning features across the stack—from lawyer-facing interfaces to data models and AI workflows. The work includes preserving competing interpretations of evidence, showing the sources behind conclusions, and incorporating lawyers’ corrections as cases develop. The role includes writing production code, making architectural decisions, and remaining responsible for the performance of shipped work. FluxCap’s stack includes React, Next.js, TypeScript, and Postgres with pgvector. The position is hybrid and based in New York City or Washington, DC; candidates willing to relocate are welcome. Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States; visa sponsorship is not currently available.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of experience shipping production software, including responsibility for designing, building, and maintaining a significant product or system.
  • Strong React, TypeScript, and Next.js skills.
  • Ability to build usable interfaces and follow the work through the backend and database.
  • Experience building and operating LLM-powered features, including retrieval or agent workflows.
  • Experience making architectural decisions under constraints such as deadlines, cost, or performance.
  • Ability to work through unfamiliar problems with lawyers, explain technical choices, and give useful feedback to other engineers.
  • Authorization to work in the United States.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with vector search, document processing, or background jobs.
  • Curiosity about the legal domain and care for sensitive information; legal experience is not required.

Responsibilities

  • Own major features from initial design through launch and ongoing use.
  • Design data models that connect claims to the facts and evidence needed to prove them.
  • Preserve sources and enable lawyers to record competing interpretations.
  • Build workflows that extract people, events, and timelines from documents and help lawyers identify gaps in evidence.
  • Build evaluations and review tools that catch AI errors and incorporate attorney corrections without exposing information from other cases.
  • Make tradeoffs involving reliability, performance, and cost.
  • Review code and help other engineers work through technical decisions.
  • Write production code, make architectural decisions, and remain responsible for how work performs after shipping.

Benefits

  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • 401(k) with an employer match
  • Company-paid life insurance and short-term disability
