About The Position

ZLayt AI is building AI-powered software for the legal industry, replacing manual processes with intelligent, automated workflows. The Senior Software Engineer will be an individual contributor who develops core features for the company’s legal technology platform and works directly with engineering and product leadership. The role offers ownership and autonomy to help shape the platform’s architecture and engineering standards. The engineer will design, build, and maintain production-ready frontend and backend applications; develop APIs, integrations, databases, and infrastructure; and take features from requirements through deployment. The position also involves applying AI development tools and integrating AI capabilities into production workflows, helping build a secure and scalable multi-tenant SaaS platform, maintaining quality and security, and collaborating with product, engineering, and business stakeholders in a fast-moving startup environment.

Requirements

At least 5 years of professional software engineering experience, including significant full-stack development experience.
Proven experience building and shipping production SaaS applications.
Strong proficiency in TypeScript/JavaScript and modern frontend frameworks such as React or Next.js.
Strong backend development experience using Node.js, Python, or comparable technologies.
Experience designing REST APIs, working with relational databases, and building integrations.
Experience with cloud infrastructure such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.
Ability to independently own features from concept through production.
Hands-on experience using AI-assisted development tools such as Cursor, Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, or comparable solutions.
Strong understanding of testing, debugging, security, and performance optimization.
Experience working in fast-paced environments with changing priorities.
Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.

Experience working at an early-stage SaaS startup.
Experience building multi-tenant software platforms.
Experience integrating LLM APIs, AI agents, or workflow automation.
Experience with AI orchestration, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), or tool calling.
Experience with CI/CD pipelines, automated QA, and infrastructure as code.
Familiarity with HIPAA, SOC 2, or other data-security and compliance frameworks.
Experience building legal technology, healthcare technology, or other complex workflow products.

Responsibilities

Design, build, and maintain production-ready frontend and backend applications.
Take features from requirements through architecture, development, testing, and deployment.
Develop user interfaces, backend services, APIs, integrations, databases, and application infrastructure.
Write clean, maintainable, well-documented code.
Use AI development tools to accelerate coding, debugging, testing, and documentation.
Integrate large language models and other AI-powered capabilities into production applications.
Develop AI-powered workflows and automation features, and evaluate AI technologies for practical applications.
Help design a secure, scalable, multi-tenant SaaS platform.
Make decisions concerning performance, reliability, security, and maintainability; identify and address technical bottlenecks.
Own the quality of delivered features, implement automated testing, and participate in code reviews.
Diagnose and resolve production bugs and maintain high standards for security and data integrity.
Deliver committed work on time and communicate blockers early.
Collaborate with product managers, engineering leadership, and business stakeholders to translate business problems into technical solutions.
Recommend practical approaches, challenge unnecessary complexity, and take initiative.
Help establish engineering standards as the company grows.
