About The Position

Apple Service Engineering's Compute team is seeking an experienced site reliability engineering software engineer to build and enhance compute infrastructure that scales to meet the demands of Apple's Services offerings. The role works with engineers on core components of Apple's Cloud Platform, with emphasis on virtual machine lifecycle management and bare-metal infrastructure to support Apple's diverse needs. The engineer will help build the platform that delivers applications at scale to end users. The role also involves solving problems through AI-assisted automation, including building and using AI tools to accelerate triage, operational workflows, and infrastructure tooling tailored to SRE workflows and infrastructure operations.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, an engineering-related field, or equivalent related experience.
• At least 7 years in a Site Reliability Engineering infrastructure-focused role.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Advocates automation and demonstrates a strong sense of ownership, with a belief in removing operational load through software.
• Strong experience building and scaling cloud infrastructure and large-scale distributed systems.
• Experience with OpenStack, KVM/hypervisor technologies, and Kubernetes.
• High proficiency in Go or Python.
• Ability to collaborate and coordinate with multiple distinct engineering teams and mentor others.
• Experience with highly distributed Unix systems.

Nice To Haves

• Advanced degree.
• Experience managing, scaling, and troubleshooting at planet scale.
• Experience operating large-scale multi-tenant Infrastructure as a Managed service.
• Expert-level proficiency with Infrastructure as Code tools such as Chef, Ansible, or Terraform.
