About The Position

As a Senior Software Engineer on the Database Integration & Observability team, you will drive initiatives across ecosystem integrations, Change Data Capture and streaming, and database observability. This includes connecting MongoDB with products such as Search, Vector Search, Atlas Stream Processing, and Atlas Data Federation; enhancing and scaling Change Streams for real-time event tracking and data synchronization; and building diagnostics, query shape statistics, logging systems, and process-level metrics. Core services are built primarily in modern C++, although prior professional C++ experience is not required for candidates with strong systems programming fundamentals. Testing and automation infrastructure uses JavaScript and Python. The role may be based at a MongoDB office in the United States or remotely within the United States. You will design, implement, and optimize integrations between the MongoDB query engine and the broader ecosystem; write maintainable, high-performance C++ code; participate in code reviews and design discussions; lead projects from design through implementation and support; and collaborate with product and engineering peers on technical roadmaps and robust engineering solutions. Success includes shipping production code within three months, contributing to a large project within six months, and designing features, leading development, and becoming a subject-matter expert within twelve months.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of experience in software development and/or performance engineering.
  • Experience with large backend or compiled codebases, such as Rust or C/C++.
  • Strong computer science fundamentals, including expertise in data structures, algorithms, concurrency, and software design architecture.
  • Strong systems programming fundamentals; prior professional C++ experience is not required.

Nice To Haves

  • Hands-on experience or an advanced degree such as an M.Sc. or Ph.D. in databases, reflecting an interest in database internals, query engines, and distributed systems architecture.
  • Experience with observability tooling, such as time series metrics and dashboards.

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and optimize integrations connecting the MongoDB query engine with the broader ecosystem.
  • Enhance and scale Change Streams to support real-time event tracking and data synchronization across downstream systems.
  • Build database observability capabilities, including diagnostics, query shape statistics, logging systems, and process-level metrics.
  • Write clean, maintainable, and high-performance C++ code.
  • Participate in code reviews and design discussions.
  • Lead projects end-to-end, from initial design through implementation and support.
  • Collaborate with product and engineering peers to define technical roadmaps and deliver robust engineering solutions.

Benefits

  • Fertility assistance.
  • Generous parental leave policy.
