About The Position

Box is hiring a Senior Software Engineer to help build the next generation of its Metadata Platform, a core part of the Box Content Cloud. Metadata helps customers organize, discover, annotate, secure, and retain content, and is increasingly used by Box products and customer-built applications. You will join a small, collaborative engineering team and help solve complex challenges that affect the productivity of millions of users at major enterprises. The role includes leading the design and implementation of new platform components, building scalable services, contributing to platform vision and feature roadmaps, mentoring engineers, and improving engineering practices and culture. The position works with technologies including Kubernetes, Docker, BigTable, and Istio. Box follows an AI-first approach and encourages employees to use AI to make faster, smarter decisions. Employees are expected to work from their assigned office at least three days per week.

Requirements

At least 4 years of professional software development experience.
Extensive experience deploying and operating microservices in a cloud environment.
A proven track record of building services and/or tooling in one or more languages such as Java, Go, Scala, or Python.
Experience working with message queues and/or streaming data systems such as Kafka or Pub/Sub.

Nice To Haves

Experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP), Amazon Web Services (AWS), or Azure.
Experience deploying and operating microservices on Kubernetes.

Responsibilities

Lead design and implementation efforts for new platform components, from the ground up.
Design and implement scalable services with a focus on reliability, observability, operability, and efficiency.
Contribute to setting the platform vision and defining feature roadmaps.
Mentor other engineers and contribute to team growth and development.
Strengthen engineering processes, principles, and culture within the team and across Box by promoting learning, continuous improvement, and blameless retrospection.
