Senior Software Engineer – Storage
About The Position
The Senior Software Engineer designs and develops software for HPE’s Alletra Enterprise Storage Platform, including storage services, data path components, and systems infrastructure. The role focuses on building scalable, highly concurrent solutions in modern C++ on Linux, and contributing to distributed storage features that emphasize availability, data integrity, and operational efficiency. The position investigates and resolves functional, reliability, and performance issues; develops automated tests and validation frameworks; and participates in design, code, and test reviews. The engineer works with software, performance, platform, and quality engineering teams, evaluates technologies that can improve storage capabilities and engineering productivity, and mentors less experienced engineers. The position is hybrid, with an average requirement of two days per week in an HPE office.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent.
- Typically 6–10 years of experience.
- Extensive experience with multiple software systems design tools and languages.
- C++ experience, including STL, Boost, templates, basic C++, and object-oriented programming concepts; Python experience.
- Knowledge of systems, distributed systems, or embedded systems.
- Linux operating system knowledge, including operating systems, CPU, memory, and system architecture.
- Multithreaded programming experience, including use of mutexes and locks.
- Knowledge of algorithms and data structures and experience writing performant code.
- Experience with debugging and profiling tools such as GDB and perf.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Experience in the overall architecture of software systems for products and solutions.
- Experience designing and integrating software systems running on multiple platform types into an overall architecture.
- Experience evaluating software testing methods and processes, including writing and executing test plans and using debugging, testing scripts, and tools.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; mastery of English and the local language.
- Ability to communicate product architectures and design proposals and negotiate options at senior management levels.

- Experience with file systems, storage, data path work, or systems infrastructure code.
- Knowledge of Kubernetes.

- Develop automated tests and validation frameworks to improve product quality and release confidence.
- Evaluate and integrate technologies and approaches that enhance storage capabilities and engineering productivity.
- Mentor less experienced engineers and contribute to technical discussions and team knowledge sharing.
