About The Position

Twilio’s Compliance Experiences team owns the Phone Numbers and Compliance (KYC) domains. The KYC platform enables customers to provision and operate Twilio communication services globally while meeting changing regulatory requirements. As a Senior Software Engineer (L3), you will contribute to the design, delivery, and operational health of platform services that process millions of requests. You will build scalable, high-performance APIs, microservices, and tools, own features end to end, write technical specifications, and collaborate with engineering partners and cross-functional stakeholders. The role also involves using AI-assisted development tools to accelerate code generation, testing, and prototyping while maintaining code quality and safety.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of experience designing and developing highly available, high-scale, secure, mission-critical cloud-native enterprise distributed systems.
  • Strong proficiency in Java or Go and solid knowledge of AWS, including Lambda, EKS, DynamoDB, and Kafka.
  • Hands-on experience with cloud-native infrastructure, microservices patterns, and resilient systems.
  • Practical experience using AI development tools such as Copilot, Claude, or Cursor for software delivery, debugging, code synthesis, or prototyping.
  • Experience building and maintaining high-volume public-facing APIs with a focus on developer experience.
  • Experience with high-throughput data processing and storage technologies such as SQL/NoSQL, Redis, Kafka, or Spark.
  • Familiarity with Kubernetes, Terraform, and modern CI/CD practices.
  • Ability to influence team technical decisions through strong communication and technical credibility.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience building internal platforms that help other developer teams move faster.
  • Experience building or integrating AI agents into internal developer platforms or automated operations workflows.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to technical design and roadmaps for core platform components, author specifications, and help transition legacy systems to scalable, cloud-native microservices.
  • Use AI coding assistants and LLMs to automate boilerplate, generate tests, and prototype solutions while upholding code quality and safety guardrails.
  • Own components end to end and make technical decisions that balance feature delivery, reliability, security, and technical debt.
  • Partner with Product Managers and cross-functional stakeholders to translate customer needs and regulatory requirements into technical specifications, APIs, and application workflows.
  • Mentor junior engineers, onboard new team members, and support collaboration through code reviews, tech talks, and technical guidance.
  • Identify and address technical risks, performance bottlenecks, and security vulnerabilities; take on-call responsibilities, resolve incidents, and implement durable root-cause fixes.
  • Communicate technical designs, trade-offs, and operational procedures through design documents, RFCs, and documentation.
