About The Position

Thomson Reuters is seeking a Senior Front-End Software Engineer to join the CoCounsel team, which builds AI agentic products for legal professionals. The role turns early concepts into scalable, production-ready features and owns client architecture for streaming agent interactions, from React user interfaces through production deployment. The engineer will work on Litigation Drafting products that combine complex workflow interfaces with an advanced legal agent. These interfaces support long-running processes with frequent human input and must remain intuitive, responsive, and controllable. The role contributes to front-end architecture and agentic UI design across the CoCounsel team. It builds resilient interfaces from event streams and works with the agent runtimes behind them, productionizes AI capabilities through pipelines, deployments, testing, and observability, and partners with Labs, product managers, and designers. The engineer also supports the team's growth through code reviews, design documentation, mentoring, and shared components. The position is suited to a collaborative, fast-moving engineer who can work through ambiguous requirements, deliver reliable solutions, and contribute ideas and end-to-end ownership.

Requirements

  • At least 4 years of front-end engineering experience, including significant production work with React and TypeScript on products used by real customers.
  • A track record of building performant user interfaces under rapid, continuous updates.
  • Hands-on experience with the AG-UI protocol or comparable agent-UI protocols and SDKs.
  • Strong proficiency in SSE events, Claude Agent SDK, AgentCore, and AWS or Azure cloud services.
  • Hands-on experience building and owning CI/CD pipelines for production web applications, using GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, CodePipeline, or similar, including automated testing and safe release practices.
  • Experience modeling complex asynchronous client states.
  • Excellent debugging skills and a demonstrated ability to deliver highly reliable, production-ready systems.
  • Comfort working in fast-paced, iterative environments, with strong cross-functional communication skills.
  • Strong product sense and ability to turn ambiguous requirements into polished, accessible interfaces.

Nice To Haves

  • BA or BS in Computer Science, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Knowledge of backend streaming patterns such as Node or Python/FastAPI, sufficient to debug end to end.
  • Experience with feature flags such as LaunchDarkly and canary releases.
  • Familiarity with tool calling, structured outputs, MCP, and streaming partial JSON parsing.
  • Experience with Datadog (logs, RUM, and traces), CloudWatch Log Insights, and Braintrust.
  • Strong opinions on testing, automation, and operational robustness.
  • Prior experience working on products for legal, compliance, or other regulated professional domains.

Responsibilities

  • Build fast, resilient front-end interfaces that turn SSE and AG-UI protocol events into user experiences, and understand the agent runtimes behind them, including Claude Agent SDK and AgentCore.
  • Contribute to front-end architecture and agentic UI design with front-end engineers and architects across the CoCounsel team.
  • Build and maintain front-end CI/CD pipelines and agent-facing infrastructure; run deployments and smoke tests.
  • Help build end-to-end Playwright tests for scale testing and add observability to the client and delivery process.
  • Partner with the Labs team, product managers, and designers to turn early AI-agent concepts into scalable, production-ready product features.
  • Mentor engineers and raise team quality through code review, design documents, mentoring, and well-tested shared components.
