Senior Software Engineer - Grafana Search & Storage | US | Remote
About The Position
Grafana Labs is hiring a Senior Software Engineer for its Grafana Search & Storage squad, which is developing Grafana’s next-generation storage layer. Unified Storage is part of the App Platform and enables developers to build applications using a Kubernetes-inspired Operator pattern to interact directly with data. The squad also operates Unified Storage at scale within Grafana Cloud and manages Search, the unified engine for finding and querying Grafana data, and Folders, for hierarchical content management. The role involves influencing the team roadmap and personal career objectives, delivering and iterating on features, and driving projects from ideation through customer-facing operations. Engineers design, build, operate, and maintain critical systems and own their reliability, performance, and availability. The position participates in team on-call rotations and includes mentoring, design discussions, collaboration, and learning about Grafana Cloud, its customers, and a large distributed-system codebase. This is a remote opportunity for candidates located in the US or Canada.
Requirements

- Good communication skills and ability to collaborate in a fully remote team.
- Solid experience with Go, Rust, Python, or similar programming languages.
- Demonstrated knowledge of and experience working with large distributed systems.
- Experience delivering projects from requirements gathering and ideation through shipping a product to customers in a self-driven manner.
- Experience developing cloud software or working in systems engineering.
- Experience writing clean, robust, performant, and maintainable software.
- Independent attitude and good communication skills for remote work.
Nice To Haves
- Experience using Grafana and Prometheus in operational roles, including on-call work, or through hobby or homelab projects.
- Familiarity with on-call work, operations/SRE tasks, or infrastructure as code.
Responsibilities
- Influence the team roadmap and personal career objectives.
- Deliver new features with the team and use results to iterate and improve.
- Drive projects from initial ideation through operations after they reach customers.
- Contribute to open-source projects beyond the team’s direct scope.
- Design, build, operate, and maintain critical systems, owning their reliability, performance, and availability.
- Participate in team on-call rotations and take ownership of the services being run.
- Mentor and support team members, participate in design discussions, and collaborate with the team.
- Develop a deeper understanding of Grafana Cloud, its customers, and the codebase of a large distributed system.
