About The Position

Radar is hiring a Senior/Staff Software Engineer, Search to improve the data and search systems behind its geocoding platform. The platform processes more than 1 billion API calls per day, and the role focuses on improving location-data quality and coverage, building automated data pipelines, and advancing query understanding, candidate retrieval, ranking, and relevance across geocoding and autocomplete. The engineer will apply ML and LLMs where they can materially improve the product, including data enrichment and matching, while working primarily as a software engineer across data, search, and backend systems. The role is based at Radar’s NYC headquarters. The engineer will work across data pipelines written in Scala and Python and the HorizonDB geospatial database, written in Rust. The broader technology stack includes custom search indexes and stores such as Tantivy, RocksDB, and FSTs; ML models; a Node.js and TypeScript API layer; MongoDB, S3/Athena, Redis, AWS, Kubernetes on EKS, and Terraform. Most engineers participate in the on-call rotation. Radar values generalist engineers who are willing to learn across stacks, ship quickly, and engage with customers. The role involves working with customers and prospects and collaborating with engineering, Customer Success, Sales Engineering, and Sales teams.

Responsibilities

  • Improve geocoding and autocomplete quality through better query understanding, retrieval, ranking, and relevance.
  • Use ML and LLMs to enrich, label, match, and expand location data at scale.
  • Automate data pipelines that expand data coverage and detail, reduce manual work, and handle routine corrections more automatically.
  • Onboard new and messy data sources and improve normalization, matching, and integration of US and international location data.
  • Improve how location data is indexed, retrieved, ranked, and surfaced to users across data and search systems.
  • Work across the stack, from Scala and Python data pipelines to search and serving in HorizonDB (Rust).
  • Build and maintain systems that power more than 1 billion API calls per day.
  • Talk with Radar customers and prospects, incorporate their feedback, and help make them successful.
