About The Position

CareFirst is seeking a Senior Software Engineer for ERP Procurement Systems to own, enhance, integrate, and support the technology enabling source-to-pay and procure-to-pay operations. The immediate focus is the current production landscape, including SAP Ariba, Oracle E-Business Suite (EBS), supplier connectivity, catalogs, purchasing, invoicing, and downstream financial integrations. The role is platform flexible: it improves current reliability and business value while creating reusable integration, data, documentation, and control foundations for a future cloud ERP program that may include Workday, Oracle Cloud ERP, or another selected platform. The position combines hands-on engineering with procurement-process expertise and offers the opportunity to influence the long-term roadmap without a predetermined implementation date. It has no direct reports, but the engineer is expected to guide and mentor less experienced staff and may coordinate matrixed resources.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in information technology, Computer Science, Finance, Accounting, Business, or a related field; alternatively, four additional years of relevant work experience in addition to the required work experience.
  • At least 5 years of experience with software development, basic coding and compilation, software architecture/design, user requirements definition, and software specification development.
  • At least 8 years of experience in procurement systems engineering, enterprise applications, ERP integrations, or a closely related area, including substantial hands-on production support and delivery experience.
  • Hands-on technical experience with SAP Ariba and/or Oracle EBS Procurement or Payables.
  • Strong knowledge of procure-to-pay or source-to-pay processes.
  • Experience designing, building, troubleshooting, and supporting ERP integrations and data flows.
  • Ability to work directly with procurement and finance stakeholders to refine requirements and deliver practical solutions.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving ability to evaluate existing systems and propose scalable, supportable solutions.
  • Ability to translate between business process, functional requirements, data, integrations, and technical design.
  • Experience integrating complex enterprise systems using REST/SOAP APIs, XML/JSON, SFTP, middleware, and batch or event-driven patterns.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the software development life cycle (SDLC), Agile delivery, release management, CI/CD, testing, and code-quality practices.
  • Working knowledge of cloud technologies such as AWS or Azure and database technologies such as SQL and Oracle.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, documentation, stakeholder-management, and customer-service skills.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities, meet established deadlines, and provide effective service to internal and external customers.
  • Familiarity with security, segregation of duties, audit controls, and data governance in a regulated environment.
  • Must be eligible to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with both SAP Ariba and Oracle EBS Financials (PO, AP, GL, Supplier/Vendor Master).
  • Experience with Workday Procurement, Workday Financial Management, Oracle Cloud ERP, Boomi, MuleSoft, or Oracle Integration Cloud.
  • Experience in healthcare, insurance, or another regulated industry.
  • SAFe or Agile certification.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, test, deploy, and support integrations and enhancements across SAP Ariba, Oracle EBS Procurement/Payables, supplier systems, catalogs, marketplaces, and related enterprise services.
  • Provide advanced production support by diagnosing integration failures, data inconsistencies, workflow issues, and performance problems through root-cause analysis and durable remediation.
  • Support requisitioning, purchasing, receiving, invoicing, supplier onboarding, sourcing, contracts, approval routing, and master-data processes.
  • Partner with Procurement, Accounts Payable, Finance, Security, Infrastructure, vendors, and managed-service partners to prioritize incidents and enhancements.
  • Build and maintain secure interfaces using APIs, middleware, file-based exchange, and scheduled or event-driven patterns.
  • Improve catalog enablement, supplier connectivity, touchless transaction processing, monitoring, reconciliation, and operational reporting.
  • Maintain technical specifications, support procedures, interface inventories, data mappings, test evidence, and audit-ready documentation.
  • Participate in change advisory, release, deployment, access-control, and production-validation activities.
  • Document current-state configurations, customizations, integrations, data dependencies, controls, and pain points to reduce future discovery effort.
  • Evaluate Workday Procurement, Oracle Cloud ERP, and other platform capabilities when requested; contribute to fit-gap analysis, proofs of concept, data conversion, integration strategy, and roadmap decisions.
  • Favor vendor-neutral, loosely coupled patterns that protect current operations and can be reused during eventual modernization.
  • Guide and mentor less experienced staff and may coordinate matrixed resources.
