About The Position

Reddit is seeking a Senior Software Engineer for its Messaging Infra team to tackle large-scale streaming and distributed messaging infrastructure challenges. The role involves partnering with the team and key users (ML/AI/Search) to develop scalable technical solutions that maintain high availability and reliability, ensuring a great user experience across Reddit's products. The messaging layer handles over 50 million messages per second and 100GB/s of network traffic, storing over a petabyte of live topic data across approximately 1,000 brokers.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience building internet-scale software, preferably with a focus on machine learning storage infrastructure.
• Software development experience in one or more general purpose programming languages; Golang, Python, C++, Java
• Experience working closely with technologies like Kafka, and Kubernetes.
• Hands-on experience implementing features, optimizations, and bug fixes to distributed messaging systems.
• Excellent communication skills to collaborate with stakeholders in engineering, data science, machine learning, and product.
• Degree in Computer Science or equivalent technical field.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to developing the team and organization’s long term technical strategy.
• Refine and maintain our messaging infrastructure to support the asynchronous communication of services supporting hundreds of millions of users.
• Own the infrastructure (managed and self-hosted) that supports produce and consume requests along with the necessary tooling and automation to efficiently operate the infrastructure.
