Senior Software Engineer II, Network Products
About The Position
As a Senior Software Engineer 2 at DigitalOcean, you will join a dynamic team dedicated to revolutionizing cloud computing and AI. This role will be on the Network Products team, reporting to the Engineering Manager, where you will write control plane and data plane software: developing APIs, troubleshooting and improving the customer experience, and helping the team to own some of the product offerings end-to-end. Our team is passionate about quality, performance, and the reliability of the Network Products product suite and is excited about the impact our work has on the company and customers.
Requirements
- Significant experience as a software architect and lead developer in building scalable, real-time, and distributed systems
- Significant experience with Go programming language and unit tests
- Domain knowledge of Networking stack and an eagerness to learn more
- Experience with leading work across multiple teams to build API contracts
- Experience with cloud development, containerization and virtualization
- Experience with Continuous Integration and Delivery (CI/CD)
- Some experience with data plane programming like eBPF and XDP
- Record of creating sweeping improvements in stability, performance and scalability across major business-critical systems
- Record of automating the steps necessary to deliver high-quality, well-tested, and production-ready software from initial development to ongoing, scalable, production operation.
- B.S/M.S in Computer Science or relevant and equivalent experience.

- Bonus: You have used gRPC to build robust distributed and high-demand systems
- Bonus: Experience with Firewall, DNS and Network Monitoring systems development
- Bonus: Working knowledge of Temporal and Kafka
Responsibilities
- Lead the design, implementation, test and optimization of new services and tools that run at scale and solve performance and monitoring problems.
- Work with other teams within Networking and across the company to build the next generation of products and services for our developers community.
- Support existing products and contribute creative solutions to the pain points.
- Help improve our toolings and process to ship robust and mission-critical parts of the ecosystem.
- Establish best practices for development and architecture
- Use technologies and tools such as: Go, Consul, Kafka, SQL, Chef, Git, Jira, gRPC, Prometheus, Grafana, Lightstep, Docker, DNS, eBPF, XDP, and Kubernetes
- Help to grow and mentor other engineers within Networking
