Senior Software Engineer, Handheld Data Collection Systems

Anvil RoboticsSan Francisco, CA
Onsite

About The Position

Anvil is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to lead the integration of its handheld data collection system. This role involves taking full technical ownership of bringing together various components of the system, including pose tracking, model training, SoC/chip integration, and industrial design, into a cohesive and user-friendly product. The successful candidate will act as a systems and product engineer, bridging the gap between specialist teams and ensuring the end-to-end functionality of the data collection system. This system is crucial for Anvil's Physical AI platform, enabling the capture of high-quality demonstration data for training robots. The first 100 days will focus on gaining a deep understanding of the system, identifying integration gaps, and delivering concrete improvements. By day 100, the engineer will be the go-to person for cross-team technical integration issues, trusted with making critical technical judgment calls.

Requirements

  • Systems or product integration experience for a robotic or perception-based product.
  • Experience making disparate technical pieces (hardware, perception, software, ML) work together into a user-reliant product.
  • Genuine, provable depth in at least one of the following: Perception/robotics systems (SLAM, VIO, sensor fusion, mapping), Embedded application development, Cloud scale pose estimation or perception pipeline engineering, ML workflow, training, and deployment engineering, Physical AI and robot learning deployment.
  • Familiarity with several of the listed technical areas.
  • Ability to operate as a team of one across teams, building technical credibility.
  • Default to shipping the smallest thing that closes an integration gap.
  • Master's degree in robotics, computer science, electrical engineering, or a related field, or a bachelor's with equivalent hands-on depth.
  • 3–5 years of engineering experience, or 2–3 years of fast-growing experience working directly alongside a staff or principal engineer on a shipped robotics or perception product.
  • Experience as the second chair on a real integration effort, ready to own the whole thing for the first time.

Nice To Haves

  • PhD is not required; this is a product integration role, not a research role.

Responsibilities

  • Full technical ownership of pulling the handheld data collection software system together end to end.
  • Acting as the systems and product engineer across specialist teams, including pose tracking, model training, SoC/chip, and industrial design.
  • Understanding how all system components need to fit together, catching gaps between teams, and making integration decisions.
  • Building real infrastructure for parts of the system that do not have it yet, including turning model team scripts into repeatable processes.
  • Driving alignment and technical decisions across teams without formal authority.

Benefits

  • Health and Wellness
  • Compensation and Support
