About The Position

Citi is hiring a Senior Software Engineer to take ownership of application design and development at scale, shaping how digital products are built and delivered across a global financial institution. In this role, you will act as a development lead on mid-to-large scale projects, making consequential engineering decisions and building systems that millions of clients depend on every day. Your technical ownership will directly influence product quality, delivery outcomes, and the pace at which Citi advances its AI and digital capabilities.

Requirements

• Five or more years of engineering experience building high-performance, large-scale distributed systems in a production environment.
• Fluency in Java, Python, or both, applied to deliver scalable backend services and APIs.
• Hands-on experience building UI components using React JS or Streamlit, with the ability to contribute across the full stack.
• Practical knowledge of backend frameworks such as Spring (Boot, Core, JDBC, AI) or Flask, used to build reliable, maintainable services.
• Proficiency with relational and document databases including Oracle, PostgreSQL, or MongoDB, with the ability to design and optimize data models.
• Demonstrated ability to design and implement REST or WebSocket APIs that meet performance and reliability requirements at scale.
• Working knowledge of messaging and event streaming platforms such as Kafka or JMS/MQ, and cloud infrastructure on AWS, GCP, or Azure.
• Hands-on experience with container orchestration and infrastructure tooling including Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform, and Helm, alongside CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins and Gradle.

Responsibilities

• Design and build end-to-end software solutions that are robust, scalable, and focused on delivering real value to users and the business.
• Lead engineering decisions on complex, large-scale distributed systems, influencing how applications are architected and delivered across teams.
• Develop foundational components and production-grade capabilities in Artificial Intelligence and Large Language Models, accelerating Citi's AI platform maturity.
• Drive the integration and enterprise-wide adoption of Generative AI solutions, working across technology domains to ensure successful delivery at scale.
• Iterate quickly and pragmatically, prioritizing working software and rapid feedback over lengthy upfront design.
• Champion lean engineering practices through pair programming, streamlined workflows, and continuous improvement of how the team builds and ships software.
• Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to translate complex technical and organizational challenges into clear, deliverable engineering outcomes.
