About The Position

Expedia Group’s Distribution and Supply organization builds the core systems powering its global travel marketplace. The organization processes trillions of pricing requests daily and serves hundreds of millions of travelers across hotels, vacation rentals, cars, and packages, while helping partners optimize pricing, inventory, and visibility in real time. The Senior Software Development Engineer will build and scale next-generation pricing and marketplace infrastructure. The role involves designing and operating highly available, low-latency distributed systems that handle massive request volumes, and owning critical services that shape traveler experience and partner success across the Expedia ecosystem. The technology stack includes JVM languages such as Java, Kotlin, and Scala, as well as systems languages such as Rust; the team values selecting the right technology for the problem.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
At least 8 years of experience.
High proficiency in Java/JVM languages such as Scala or Kotlin, or systems languages such as Rust.
Demonstrated ownership of services or components through technical design, implementation, quality, and operational health.
Strong system design (LLD), API design, and data modeling skills.
Experience with microservices architectures, automated testing, and CI/CD.

Nice To Haves

Experience with large-scale, high-traffic distributed systems, including leading performance tuning, capacity planning, and resilience engineering.
Hands-on experience with Rust or other systems-level languages for performance-critical, low-latency components.
Technical leadership experience, such as leading or reviewing designs and code, and mentoring or coaching junior engineers to influence best practices across teams.
Strong observability and operational excellence skills, such as metrics, alerting, incident response, and post-incident analysis.
Familiarity with AI-driven development tools for code generation, testing, or operational insights, applied responsibly to boost productivity.

Responsibilities

Design, build, and own scalable, resilient services end-to-end, from system and API design and data modeling through implementation, testing, deployment, and operational support.
Drive technical direction by evaluating trade-offs and setting best practices for code quality, observability, and performance.
Mentor and coach junior engineers.
Collaborate with product, design, and partner engineering teams to deliver integrated, reliable, scalable solutions.
Proactively resolve production issues and improve system reliability through automation and monitoring.
