About The Position

The Senior Specialist, Software Engineering, Full Stack designs, builds, and operates end-to-end web applications and services that power Zillow’s customer and internal experiences. This role combines front-end and back-end expertise to deliver scalable, resilient solutions, mentor other engineers, and drive technical decisions for moderately complex initiatives within a product or platform area. The role architects, develops, and maintains full-stack applications and services, leads complex features from concept through deployment, collaborates with cross-functional partners, establishes engineering best practices, mentors engineers, and monitors and optimizes production systems. It is categorized as remote. Remote employees do not have a permanent corporate office workplace and work from a physical location of their choice that must be identified to the Company. U.S. employees may live in any of the 50 states, with limited exceptions. The position is eligible for equity awards in addition to base salary. Actual compensation and equity awards vary based on factors such as experience, performance, and location. Employees will not be paid below the salary threshold for exempt employees in their state of residence.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
8+ years of professional software engineering experience, including significant work across both front-end and back-end web application development.
Proven experience designing, building, and operating scalable, reliable services and user-facing features in a modern cloud environment.
Demonstrated experience collaborating in cross-functional, agile teams and influencing technical direction for complex projects.

Responsibilities

Architect, develop, and maintain full-stack web applications and services, including modern front-end frameworks, scalable back-end APIs, and data stores.
Lead the design and implementation of complex features from concept through deployment, ensuring performance, reliability, security, and maintainability.
Collaborate with product, design, data, and adjacent engineering teams to refine requirements, break down work, and deliver high-impact solutions iteratively.
Establish and advocate for engineering best practices in code quality, testing, observability, CI/CD, and incident response, and model these standards in day-to-day work.
Mentor and provide technical guidance to other engineers through code reviews, design discussions, and pairing.
Monitor, troubleshoot, and optimize production systems, using data and diagnostics to improve system health, user experience, and operational efficiency.
