About The Position

Are you a passionate Senior Software Developer (m/f/d) who wants every single one of your changes to make hundreds of engineering hours faster and more reliable? Are you tired of environments where CI is treated as an afterthought, a pile of scripts nobody owns, and where "the build is broken" is just accepted as normal? If so, we have an exciting opportunity for you to join our CI team at Checkmk and make a real difference! At Checkmk, the Build & Test Platform is not plumbing, it is a product with developers as its users. As our new Senior Developer (m/f/d) for our Build & Test Platform, your mission will be to design and build the Bazel-based build and test architecture that carries Checkmk's growth. We have ambitious and growing goals as a company, and that directly shapes our engineering environment. More developers, more tests, higher quality standards: the demands on our platform will keep increasing, year over year. Your job is to stay ahead of that curve, so that feedback stays fast, results stay trustworthy, and quality is caught before it reaches a customer. Here's what your journey with us will look like: Build architecture: Own and evolve our Bazel setup across several concurrently maintained product versions. Drive hermeticity, sane dependency boundaries, and toolchain management, and plan migrations that improve the architecture without blocking the developers who depend on it every day. Make it fast: Turn build and test times into something you measure and then attack. Remote caching and execution, cache hit rates and a good Pipeline architecture. Automation and developer experience: From build and release tooling to the diagnostics that let a developer understand a failure on their own. Collaboration: Work closely with the product teams who use the platform, with QA, and with the rest of CI. Understand how developers really work and turn their pain points into a technical roadmap.

Requirements

  • Solid experience with Bazel (especially Platform, Toolchains, Rules) and open to new technologies
  • Experience, some background or openness in (Python) Programming
  • Linux command line knowledge to navigate and troubleshoot efficiently
  • Interest in working in an Open-Source environment
  • Strong background in CI/CD pipelines and ability to design build systems (e.g., Jenkins, GitHub Actions, GitLab Ci)
  • Proficiency in scripting and automation (Python and Bash)
  • Understanding of dependency management, caching, and distributed builds.
  • Familiarity with containerization (Docker)
  • A proactive mindset, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to work across teams.
  • Fluent English communication.
