Senior Software Architect

Florence Healthcare•Atlanta, GA

About The Position

Florence is seeking a Senior Software Architect to define and evolve scalable, secure, and resilient technical solutions across its multi-tenant, multi-region platform, including enterprise applications, platform services, data systems, integrations, and AI capabilities. This hands-on technical leadership role translates complex business and product requirements into practical, reusable architectures and implementation roadmaps. The architect works across Engineering, Product, Platform, Data, AI, Security, Professional Services, and customer-facing teams to guide technical direction and architecture decisions while meeting immediate needs and supporting long-term strategy. The role designs end-to-end solutions and reusable patterns for APIs, event-driven systems, cloud-native services, data flows, integrations, workflow orchestration, and secure AI adoption. It evaluates trade-offs involving scalability, performance, security, reliability, cost, and delivery timelines; helps reduce technical debt and complexity; and promotes maintainability, consistent standards, reusable components, and clear documentation. The architect leads design reviews for high-impact initiatives, produces reference architectures and technical specifications, and mentors engineers and technical leaders through influence rather than formal management authority. Florence develops software for research sites, with solutions used by more than 65,000 research teams in 90 countries. The company describes its mission as accelerating research and helping advance cures and therapies. It offers competitive compensation, medical and dental insurance, and office space in the heart of the city.

  • Experience with AWS services, event streaming technologies such as Kafka, and enterprise integration patterns.
  • Experience designing reusable platform capabilities across multiple products and customer environments.
  • Experience implementing production AI solutions and intelligent workflow automation.

Responsibilities

  • Design end-to-end architectures across Florence products, platform services, integrations, data systems, and AI capabilities, translating business and customer requirements into implementation roadmaps.
  • Define reusable patterns for APIs, event-driven systems, and cloud-native services to reduce duplication and customer-specific implementations.
  • Evaluate architectural trade-offs across scalability, performance, security, reliability, cost, and time to market.
  • Partner with engineering teams on the design and implementation of complex solutions.
  • Identify opportunities to simplify systems, reduce technical debt, and improve platform scalability and maintainability.
  • Promote consistent engineering standards, reusable components, and clear architectural documentation.
  • Design architectures that connect applications, enterprise systems, data platforms, and third-party services.
  • Partner with Data Engineering on data integration, master data management, data quality, governance, and real-time data flows.
  • Identify opportunities to incorporate AI, generative AI, and intelligent automation into products and enterprise workflows.
  • Evaluate AI and agentic solutions based on business value, security, reliability, performance, and operational cost.
  • Establish patterns for data access, API integration, workflow orchestration, observability, and secure AI adoption.
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Product, Platform, Data, AI, Security, and Professional Services to align architecture with business and product priorities.
  • Lead architecture and design reviews for high-impact initiatives and cross-product dependencies.
  • Develop reference architectures, technical specifications, and architecture decision records.
  • Mentor engineers and technical leaders, influencing decisions through technical depth and judgment rather than formal management authority.
  • Promote pragmatic architecture practices that improve engineering velocity without compromising quality, security, or reliability.
