About The Position

The Senior Social Work Supervisor, under limited supervision, provides supervision over Social Worker staff that provides direct and/or indirect services to clients. Work supervised is predominantly at the level of Senior Social Worker, School Social Worker and/or Behavioral Health Therapist. Employee assigns location and/or cases to subordinates, coordinates workflow operations, and supervises staff through case review and consultation which requires the provision of substantial and recurring technical direction. Employee is responsible for staff training, resolving problems and ensuring that quality services are provided. Employee may provide input to higher level management on administrative, personnel, and budget issues. Employees' responsibilities may range from a single sub-unit in an agency or institution to multiple service programs in a small agency and may carry a small caseload. The Behavioral Health Collaborative (BHC) with Union County Public Schools (UCPS) is a unique collaboration between the Department of Human Services and our local school system. This collaboration enables services to support the social, emotional and mental health needs of students and families.

Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university and five (5) years of experience in social work, or a related human services field providing experience in the techniques of casework, group work, or community organization; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
One year of work experience can be credited for completion of the NC Child-Welfare Education collaborative Pre-service training or licensure as a Clinical Social Worker.
Master's Degree from an accredited school of social work and five (5) years of social work or a related human services field.
Must have a valid Driver’s License and be able to maintain a safe driving history as defined by the Union County Vehicle Use Policy.
Fluent in English
This position may be subject to a fingerprint background check. Per NC General Statute 153A-94.2(b ), applicants for a position of employment required to work with children in any capacity will be required to electronically submit fingerprints to the NC State Bureau of Investigation for a state and national criminal history record.

Responsibilities

Supervises staff responsible for the delivery of intensive social work service to clients and their families who have serious and complicated social, economic, emotional or mental problems.
Reviews program objectives and service delivery needs with staff and formulates specific goals and objectives for the assigned program area.
Provides input to higher-level management on short- and long-range planning needs for staff or program.
Assigns location and or cases to staff and maintains workload balance.
Effectively communicates and educates clients, students, families and staff on relevant information related to behavioral health issues and coping mechanisms.
Makes referrals and directs staff to make referrals to Community Resources to support the needs of the clients and families served.
Makes changes in work procedures to meet program demands and presents recommendations to management on issues which impact on programmatic goals, objectives and policies.
Manages a small unit budget necessary for staff administrative expenditures.
Provides on-the-job training for staff and plans for staff to receive formal training when offered.
Ensures that policies, rules and regulations are followed, and explains and implements changes when necessary.
Monitors the work of subordinate staff through case reviews, progress reports, conferences and informal discussions to assure compliance with operational standards and established policies.
Discusses problems with staff and issues initial oral warnings for disciplinary action.
Interviews applicants for positions supervised and provides recommendations to higher level management on hiring decisions.
Provides input on discussions concerning promotions and salary adjustments for individuals supervised.
Exercises immediate remedial action to correct any quality deficiencies that occur in areas of responsibility.
Reads a variety of reports, correspondence, records, forms, etc., and prepares correspondence, reports, forms, records, etc., using prescribed formats and conforming to all rules of punctuation, grammar, diction, and style.
Develops and maintains cooperative and courteous relationships with all division and school employees, staffers and managers in other divisions, representatives from organizations, and the general public so as to maintain good will toward the division and project a good division image.
Provides adequate feedback to staff so that they know whether their performance levels are satisfactory, commends and rewards employee outstanding performance as well as take disciplinary action when necessary.
Assigns additional duties to staff as necessary and/or appropriate to meet department goals, enhance staff abilities, build confidence on the job and assist staff members in personal growth.
Participates in subordinate's performance evaluation, approves leave requests, and time sheets.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Contacts other counties to request assistance in Conflict-of-Interest cases; filter and assign 210 (CPS Assessment) and 215 (CPS In-Home Services) assist requests from other states and North Carolina counties.
Utilizes the Structured Intake Tool to screen Child Protective Services referrals.
Provides weekend coverage on a rotating basis.
Provides guidance and oversight for In-Home, Foster Care, Adoptions, and licensing cases.
MAPP training for in-coming foster parents.
Conducts interviews to determine if abuse, neglect, or dependency is occurring.
Considers all calls, letters, or office interviews that may require Child Protective Services (CPS) intervention.
Meets with families to promote safety and permanency.
Provides testimony in court on related CPS cases or cases subordinate staff are responsible for as necessary.
Provides updated information about Child Protective Services to people in need or seeking services.
Utilize Adult Services Manual to screen Adult Protective Services reports.
Staff CPS assessments and APS evaluations.
Provides guidance and oversight for Adult Services, Assessments, In-Home, and Foster Care.
Provides case oversight and administrative supervision to School Social Work (SSW) staff providing direct and indirect services to students and families within the BHC.
Coordinates the workflow, monitors staff workload including school and cluster assignments, monitors documentation and protocol compliance, trains and develops staff and serves as liaison between the BHC and UCPS.
Coordinates daily operations including workflow management, staffing assignments, balancing caseloads, ensuring timely effective service delivery, payroll and leave requests, scheduling, resource allocation, equipment coordination, and implementation of BHC protocols.
Enroll new SSWs into required coursework to obtain NC SSW Licensure through the NC Department of Public Instruction and track renewals thereafter.
Prepares, reviews, and maintains required documentation, reports, and correspondence in accordance with organizational standards.
Maintains current knowledge of evidence-based practices, behavioral health trends, educational initiatives, legal requirements, and best practices related to school social work and student support services.
May provide recommendations to senior leadership regarding program goals, priorities, and performance expectations, including staffing, personnel matters, and policy development.
Exercises independent judgment in prioritizing work, allocating resources, addressing operational challenges, and supporting continuous quality improvement initiatives that advance the goals of the program.
Coordinates internship recruitment, onboarding, orientation, university partnerships, supervision processes, and evaluation of graduate-level interns participating in the Behavioral Health Collaborative.
Promotes and sustains collaboration across schools, departments, and community agencies to enhance student outcomes and service effectiveness.
Provides consultation and supervisory guidance during student behavioral health crises, suicide risk assessments, threat assessments, child protective services involvement, psychiatric emergencies, and other high-risk situations.
