About The Position

The Athletic is looking for a creator-minded Sr. Social Producer to own the digital footprint of our new daily live show. This role is for a digital-first filmmaker and strategist who knows how to stop the scroll. Reporting to the Executive Producer, the Sr. Social Producer will be embedded in the control room, identifying viral moments as they happen and translating them into high-performing social assets. The role requires someone comfortable editing high-energy reels, moderating fast-moving YouTube chats, and filming "behind-the-scenes" content with talent. This person will be the voice of the show to the community and the architect of its growth.

Requirements

  • 4+ Years in Social Content Creation with a proven track record of growing audiences for a sports or media brand.
  • Proficient in Adobe Premiere Pro and mobile-first editing apps (CapCut, etc.).
  • Basic filming skills (iPhone or DSLR).
  • Deep understanding of social media platforms and their nuances.
  • Strong knowledge of sports culture, including memes, rivalries, and fan references.
  • Ability to multitask under pressure, such as editing a clip while monitoring live chat and drafting a tweet.
  • Strong editorial judgment, balancing viral energy with brand integrity.

Responsibilities

  • Rapidly identify, clip, and edit "must-see" moments from the live broadcast for TikTok, Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts, and X.
  • Ideate and film original, social-first content with show talent (e.g., "fast-fire" Q&As, blind rankings, or reaction videos) that complements the main broadcast.
  • Own the "front of house" during live broadcasts, moderating the live chat, highlighting audience questions for producers, and driving real-time engagement.
  • Build and maintain the show’s content calendar, using data to determine the best posting times, thumbnail styles, and platform-specific hooks to maximize reach.
  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the show’s dedicated social handles, ensuring a consistent, witty, and authoritative voice that aligns with The Athletic brand.
  • Use Premiere, CapCut, or Canva to create compelling visuals, memes, and info-graphics that translate complex sports stories into digestible social snacks.
  • Stay ahead of the curve on social trends and algorithm shifts, figuring out how the show can leverage new features or trending sounds.
