About The Position

The Senior Social Media Officer leads the CDC Foundation’s social media strategy, content development and audience engagement across multiple platforms. This position collaborates across the organization to translate complex public health information into compelling, audience-focused content that advances awareness, engagement and organizational goals. The Senior Social Media Officer uses data-driven insights to optimize performance, identify emerging opportunities and strengthen the CDC Foundation’s digital presence.

Requirements

  • 4-6 years of professional experience in social media, digital communications or marketing.
  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably marketing, communications or a related field, is required.
  • Proven work experience in digital marketing and social media management, including proficiency in content creation that engages, informs and motivates targeted audiences.
  • In-depth knowledge of major social media platforms and emerging channels, including LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, X and other evolving platforms, as well as experience managing an organization’s editorial flow across all channels.
  • Experience developing multimedia content, including short-form video, graphics, photography and written content for digital platforms.
  • Experience using social listening, analytics and reporting tools to evaluate performance, identify trends and translate data into actionable recommendations.
  • Familiarity with AI-assisted content creation and social media management tools.
  • Experience with social media advertising, including managing audiences and ad campaigns.
  • Up-to-date with the latest trends and best practices in online marketing and measurement.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to interact effectively with a variety of people, including senior leaders and external partners.

Nice To Haves

  • Relevant certifications are a plus.
  • Experience in healthcare, public health or nonprofit setting is helpful, but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Manages the day-to-day operations of the social media channels, including developing, scheduling and publishing engaging, brand-consistent content using the Sprout Social platform.
  • Works across the organization to gather compelling content ideas and collaborates with communications department team members to develop social media messaging and creative assets, from static graphics to short-form videos, to reach and engage target audiences.
  • Monitors social media channels and engages with audiences, responding appropriately to comments, questions and emerging issues while adhering to organizational policies and protecting the reputation of the organization.
  • Collaborates on an editorial content calendar aligned with organizational priorities, campaigns and public health observances and ensures an efficient and effective editorial flow.
  • Ensures all social media content adheres to CDC Foundation brand standards, accessibility requirements and digital communication best practices.
  • Develops and executes integrated organic and paid social media campaigns to increase awareness, engagement and support for the CDC Foundation’s mission.
  • Manages work with CDC Foundation vendors related to social media to provide strategy, guidance and implementation for advertising campaigns.
  • Measures performance of all social media campaigns, including identifying trends and insights and optimizing spend and performance. Provides strategic recommendations based on insights.
  • Monitors emerging social media trends, platform updates and audience behaviors and recommends innovative approaches to increase engagement and reach.
  • Partners with communications leadership to support social media best practices during time-sensitive emergency response activities or key public health initiatives.
  • Supports website and other work that builds the digital presence of the organization.
  • Provides guidance and oversees training for staff and partners related to social media strategy and implementation.
  • Collaborates with the Advancement team to support fundraising campaigns, donor engagement and stewardship efforts.
  • Coordinates with partners to leverage content and share critical public health information.
  • Other duties as assigned.
