About The Position

The Senior Skate Patrol will supervise and maintain a safe, enjoyable environment for all users. This role involves ensuring ice safety during recreational and hockey drop-in programming, performing on-site supervision and administration duties, creating positive relationships with patrons while ensuring adherence to skate program rules, enforcing policies and regulations for the skating facilities, overseeing program logistics (set up, take down etc.), checking safety of equipment, and performing other duties as assigned. The position is part-time, fixed-term, and seasonal, with hours up to 27.5 per week, and a contract length from September 2026 to March 2027. The role is required to work in person at various sites across the city, with the work location subject to change at the discretion of the City due to operational demands.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 16 years of age
  • Hold a current Intermediate First Aid CPR C
  • Supervise participants and maintain complete vigilance to minimize risks, and be ready to respond at all times
  • Maintain a safe, enjoyable, and inclusive program environment for all participants by educating and enforcing program rules
  • Ensure all participants are equipped with proper personal protective equipment (e.g. helmet) when required
  • Provide a high level of front line customer service including greeting and engaging participants
  • Communicate with participants in regards to accident prevention
  • Address and resolve complaints and on-ice issues
  • Complete administrative duties in a timely manner (e.g. incident/accident reports)
  • Report all concerns, accidents, and incidents to Coordinator/Supervisor
  • Attend meetings/training as required
  • Monitor the use of equipment and supplies, conduct inventory counts and re-stock as needed
