Senior Simulation Software Engineer - Robot Intelligence

Samsung Research America•Mountain View, CA
•$163,300 - $224,600

About The Position

The Robot Intelligence Lab at Samsung Research America is a new facility advancing robotics through research and development. Its mission is to develop technologies for intelligent robotic systems capable of manipulation, navigation, and complex reasoning, in collaboration with universities, startups, government labs, and Samsung research and product teams. The Senior Simulation Software Engineer will design and scale the lab’s cloud-hosted, high-performance simulation pipeline. The role partners with AI researchers to bring algorithms for manipulation, locomotion, and vision-language-action models from concepts into robust physical-world applications. It focuses on GPU-accelerated simulators, software components in Python, C++, and Rust, and cloud-based training workflows that help close the simulation-to-reality gap.

Requirements

  • MS degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or Robotics, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • 5+ years of experience conducting state-of-the-art robotics R&D.
  • Proficiency in Python and C++, with experience developing and maintaining Linux-based software.
  • Experience with robotics simulation frameworks such as IsaacSim, Gazebo, PyBullet, or MuJoCo.
  • Familiarity with scene description formats such as URDF, SDFormat, or USD.
  • Experience designing software components and defining clear interfaces within complex systems.
  • Experience developing or integrating with cloud-hosted services and data pipelines.
  • Practical experience with Docker, Git, CI/CD, and automated testing.
  • Ability to establish maintainable engineering practices while supporting fast-moving research.
  • Strong troubleshooting, collaboration, and documentation skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Developed robotic manipulation or locomotion simulation environments, tasks, and controllers or policies.
  • Trained or fine-tuned neural network robot policies in PyTorch, IsaacLab, or MJLab.
  • Developed physics or 3D rendering components for simulators.
  • Developed CUDA/Warp software components and profiled and optimized GPU kernels.
  • Deployed services on Amazon Web Services.

Responsibilities

  • Develop Python, C++, and Rust components for the robotics simulation pipeline, including asset conversion and management, simulation harnesses, cloud deployment, telemetry, replay, evaluations, and comprehensive tests.
  • Own software components throughout their lifecycle, from concept and prototype to general internal availability.
  • Profile and optimize code to improve simulation latency and throughput.
