About The Position

Skilled work involving the repair and maintenance of traffic signals and the fiber optic network. Performs fiber optic infrastructure locate services for the division. Salary will be determined depending on qualifications of candidates who exceed the minimum requirements as outlined within the job description. Additional compensation based on licensure.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED and three (3) years' experience in the field of electronics, locates or fiber optics.
• Must possess IMSA Work Zone Safety and IMSA Level I Signalization Certificate, or obtain same within six (6) months of employment.
• Must possess and maintain a valid Florida driver's license.
• Ability to use locate equipment and understand vertical and horizontal locations of facilities within the right-of-way required.
• Knowledge of the principles and theory of electronics, communications and fiber optic technology.
• Knowledge of the specialized tools, materials, and methods of the fiber optic trade.
• Knowledge of networking hardware and principles.
• Ability to perform technical or trades-based work that requires a solid understanding of varied types of heavy equipment.
• Tasks performed include operating or repairing heavy equipment (bulldozers, cranes, graders).
• Ability to use standard fiber optic test equipment.
• Ability to learn new techniques of fiber optic installation, maintenance and repair.
• Ability to read and interpret plans, sketches, and blueprints for use in the planning and installation of new fiber optic links.
• Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
• Ability to understand and carry out directions.
• Ability to plan work assignments.
• Ability to operate small office equipment, including copy machines or multi-line telephone systems, computers for data entry, word processing, and/or accounting purposes.
• Ability to use or repair small/light equipment, such as power tools, and medium equipment and machinery, such as vehicles or commercial mowers.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
• All employees must attend Seminole County Required Trainings.
• Department Specific trainings per position may be required.

Nice To Haves

• Proficiency in 811 Sunshine One Call ticket system desirable.
• Knowledge desirable in the operation of more complex and technical computer applications, such as GIS or CAD.

Responsibilities

• Responds to requests for infrastructure locates via Sunshine State One-Call notification service for both the fiber optic network and traffic signal locations.
• Maintains documentation on in-field cable and equipment locations.
• Inspects and verifies that fiber optic cables are installed and terminated properly by contractors.
• Maintains repair parts inventory and submits requests for supplies and equipment.
• Attends construction meetings with utility contractors.
• Maintains records and completes reports with respect to time and materials used on specific projects.
• Documents work accomplished using Maintstar.
• Performs other duties as assigned or as may be necessary.
• In the event of an emergency, all employees are considered essential personnel and may be required to perform alternate duties.
