Senior Server Engineer - NBA 2K
About The Position
Visual Concepts is seeking a Senior Engineer focused on server-side development to join the NBA 2K team. The role involves ownership across distributed systems, large-scale computing, and databases to build high-performance backend services that support online experiences for the NBA 2K franchise. The position reports to the Lead Director of Programming. The role is listed for remote work in the United States and Canada. Compensation varies by location. U.S. salary ranges are listed for California, New York, New Jersey, Maryland, Colorado, and Washington; the British Columbia range is listed in Canadian dollars. Compensation may also include bonuses and/or equity awards, and benefits depend on the applicable role and location.
Requirements
- At least 5 years of professional software development experience, with a strong focus on backend and server-side systems.
- Strong proficiency in C++ and a solid understanding of object-oriented programming principles.
- Proficiency in at least one scripting language, such as Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, Perl, or Ruby; Python and JavaScript are strongly preferred.
- Understanding of distributed and scalable systems.
- Experience with multithreaded programming in large-scale, real-time environments.
- Bachelor of Science in Computer Science or equivalent experience in large-scale software development.
- Skill in database optimization, including connection management and query performance tuning.
- Working knowledge of SQL databases such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, or similar systems.
- Love for video games.
Nice To Haves
- Experience developing secure transaction systems, including virtual currency and account-based features.
- Familiarity with online gaming architectures and service design for live, connected player experiences.
- Video game console development experience.
Responsibilities
- Work on backend architecture and services supporting NBA 2K online features.
- Design and optimize distributed systems for scalability, reliability, and fault tolerance.
- Build and maintain large-scale computing solutions capable of handling millions of concurrent players.
- Develop efficient database structures and queries for high-volume, real-time transactions.
- Deliver high-performance backend services focused on low latency and stability.
- Partner with engineering and design teams to enable seamless online gameplay experiences.
- Research, evaluate, and integrate emerging technologies and trends to enhance team capabilities, platform performance, and product innovation.
