Senior Semiconductor Device Engineer

Helion•Everett, WA
•Onsite

About The Position

Helion is a fusion power company working to build the world’s first fusion power plant and enable clean, reliable, affordable electricity. The Senior Semiconductor Device Engineer will drive the design and development of cutting-edge semiconductors for the high-performance pulsed-power systems used in Helion’s fusion generators. The work emphasizes high-reliability, high-efficiency switching components and rapid development cycles. This role is based onsite at Helion’s Everett, Washington office and reports directly to the Senior Manager of Electrical Engineering. The engineer will work across electrical, mechanical, and physics disciplines to develop, test, and implement semiconductor solutions, using hands-on prototyping, simulation, testing, analysis, and performance validation to iterate on designs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s, master’s, or higher degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related field.
  • At least 8 years of experience in power electronics and high-voltage semiconductor design.
  • Strong foundation in semiconductor physics, power electronics, and circuit design principles.
  • Proven experience with rapid prototyping and development cycles in a high-tech environment.
  • Background working with semiconductor fabricators to manufacture semiconductor devices.
  • Proficiency with simulation tools and test equipment for power electronics.

Responsibilities

  • Gather and use requirements for switching components and apply them to the design of physical products.
  • Drive the design and development of pulsed-power electronics components and systems, focusing on high-efficiency, high-reliability semiconductor solutions.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate electrical, mechanical, and physics-based principles into semiconductor development.
  • Lead development cycles, including hands-on prototyping, small-scale testing, and large-scale performance validation.
  • Conduct simulations, testing, and analysis to validate designs and iterate quickly using data-backed decision-making.
  • Stay informed about emerging semiconductor materials, device architectures, and industry trends.
  • Document design processes, specifications, test results, and findings for continuous improvement and knowledge sharing.

Benefits

  • Medical, dental, and vision plans for employees and their families.
  • 31 days of PTO: 21 vacation days and 10 sick days.
  • 10 paid holidays, plus a company-wide winter break.
  • Up to 5% employer 401(k) match.
  • Short-term disability, long-term disability, and life insurance.
