About The Position

This role involves providing technical service and product technical support to Coatings Additives distributors, sales teams, and customers. The Senior Scientist will support joint technical visits with sales and distributors to local customers in the US and Canada, aiming to ensure long-term business growth through technical service competencies and customer innovation. The position requires identifying, designing, and developing technical projects based on a global foundation to meet defined market needs. Responsibilities include managing, planning, and executing laboratory work for customer projects, application development, and product development programs to support business strategies within the Transportation/Leather/Plastic coatings segment. The role also involves optimizing laboratory resources, maintaining raw material inventory lists, and supporting ESHQ (Environment, Safety, Health, and Quality) initiatives, including laboratory safety programs.

Requirements

  • Minimum requirement: Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related scientific field.
  • Minimum 7+ years of experience in formulating coatings for Transportation/Plastic applications.
  • Ability to formulate, make, and apply coatings samples in the lab, including by spray techniques.
  • Ability to set goals and work independently in designing and conducting experiments, organizing data, and analyzing results.
  • Good problem-solving skills.
  • Computer proficiency required with emphasis on Excel spreadsheet capabilities and PowerPoint.
  • Effective and convincing verbal and technical writing skills in English.
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally.
  • Ability to make technical presentations to customers.

Nice To Haves

  • Ph.D. with 1-2 years of relevant experience or Master’s degree with 3-4 years of experience in coatings/additives.
  • Strong coatings formulating experience in relevant coatings field.
  • Strong chemistry background.
  • Proficiency in German language.

Responsibilities

  • Support Global Industry and Market Teams by independently performing experiments, tests, and laboratory processes requiring specialized knowledge of formulating techniques, spray application, and raw material product information to test products in coating formulations.
  • Support the development and implementation of strategies and new product developments to gain market penetration of CAD technologies into the Transportation/Plastics/Leather coatings segment.
  • Develop, recommend, and implement new or revised tests to promote existing and new products and the development of new market areas.
  • Provide technical support to customers through visits, phone calls, and emails, including technical visits with field sales to present products and technology.
  • Prepare presentations, technical reports, summaries, and analyses of work.
  • Potentially supervise or train other laboratory personnel in specialized work and oversee the activities of other employees assigned to support specific projects.
  • Maintain team raw materials list.
  • Write Safe Work Practices and support Design Hazard Reviews, Management of Change, and other safety documentation.
  • Participate in on-site safety programs and activities.
