Senior Scientist, Real-World Evidence and Outcomes

Circadia HealthEl Segundo, CA
$165,000 - $205,000Onsite

About The Position

Circadia Health is a growth-stage healthcare AI company focused on preventing hospitalizations and improving senior-care operations through its Circadia Intelligence Platform. This platform integrates contactless sensing, predictive models for adverse events, and enterprise integrations to streamline workflows within EHR, care-coordination, billing, and compliance systems. The technology currently serves over 40,000 post-acute patients daily across various networks and is supported by leading investors. The company is headquartered in El Segundo, CA. The Senior Scientist, Real-World Evidence and Outcomes will be responsible for designing and executing studies to demonstrate the impact of Circadia's platform on patient outcomes and cost-effectiveness. This role involves end-to-end ownership of studies, from question framing and design selection to analysis and publication. Key metrics will include hospital readmission rates, fall rates, time to intervention, utilization of emergency departments and inpatient services, length of stay, total cost of care, and clinician productivity. As the first dedicated outcomes research hire, this position will encompass both clinical evidence and health economics, including peer-reviewed publications and ROI/cost-avoidance analyses for payers, health systems, and operators. The role will also establish standards for Circadia's claims substantiation. Collaboration will be with the Chief Scientist, the analytics team, and clinical teams at customer facilities. The data is derived from live operations, characterized as large, real, and messy, requiring the design of the strongest possible studies given the available data.

Requirements

  • Industry research experience (not solely academic).
  • MSc or PhD in epidemiology, health services research, biostatistics, health economics, public health, or a related quantitative field.
  • 5+ years of experience producing real-world evidence, outcomes research, or health economics work in a company, consultancy, payer, or provider setting.
  • Experience with health economics and outcomes research, including cost, utilization, ROI, or cost-avoidance analysis alongside clinical endpoints.
  • Ability to translate technical findings into clear narratives for executives, customers, and payers.
  • Track record of peer-reviewed publication, ideally in a clinical specialty or informatics journal.
  • Command of observational and quasi-experimental study design, with clear understanding of limitations.
  • Proficiency with R or Python and SQL.
  • Comfort with large, messy healthcare datasets.
  • Clear scientific writing skills and experience managing manuscripts through peer review.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Medicare, Medicare Advantage, skilled nursing, or senior care populations.
  • Working knowledge of Medicare claims structure and CMS post-acute quality measures (SNFRM, PPR).
  • Experience in remote patient monitoring, medical devices, or digital health.
  • Experience evaluating AI or machine learning models in a clinical workflow.
  • Experience measuring clinician workload, documentation burden, or workflow efficiency, including clinical informatics evaluation.
  • Experience in a startup environment.
  • Familiarity with IRB pathways and reporting standards like SQUIRE 2.0.
  • Experience working with actuarial firms or third-party claims datasets.
  • Understanding of value-based care economics and healthcare reimbursement.

Responsibilities

  • Design and govern studies to assess the deployed platform's impact.
  • Scope studies by defining questions, cohorts, observation periods, and endpoints from operational data.
  • Choose and defend study designs in the absence of randomization, such as retrospective observational, matched cohort, difference-in-differences, and interrupted time series.
  • Build comparison groups, baselines, and risk-adjustment approaches.
  • Write prespecified analysis plans and determine study claims upfront.
  • Manage IRB submissions, human-subjects determinations, and disclosure requirements.
  • Shape future data collection for publishable-by-design deployments.
  • Analyze Medicare claims, EHR, platform, and customer operational data.
  • Apply matching and causal inference methods, including propensity score matching, coarsened exact matching, and mixed-effects models.
  • Address confounding, selection bias, immortal time bias, and balance diagnostics.
  • Translate operational and billing logic into claims-detectable data points.
  • Define ROI and cost-avoidance calculations and conduct subgroup analyses.
  • Draft and publish manuscripts in journals, manage peer review and revisions.
  • Produce conference abstracts, white papers, and commercial evidence.
  • Establish guidelines for Circadia's evidence-based claims.
  • Present findings to various audiences and support customer and partner discussions.
