About The Position

The hybrid Modality Group in the Protein Engineering Department at Amgen is seeking a highly motivated organic chemist to join us in the state-of-the-art research facility at the Amgen headquarters campus located in Thousand Oaks, CA . The qualified candidate will work at the interface of synthetic chemistry, biochemistry, and chemical biology to apply their synthetic skills in developing ADC therapeutics and cutting-edge novel modalities.

Requirements

• Doctorate degree specializing in organic chemistry, biochemistry, chemical biology, medicinal chemistry OR Master’s degree and 3 years of laboratory experience OR Bachelor’s degree and 5 years of laboratory experience
• Demonstration of good lab practices, with particular attention to safety
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to work comfortably within a large team of scientists and engineers with diverse technical and cultural backgrounds.

Nice To Haves

• Postdoc or 2 years of synthetic chemistry experience preferred.
• Experience in the synthesis and purification of ADC linker and payloads.
• Experience in bioconjugation process is preferred.
• Experience with peptide synthesis and purification is preferred.
• A robust understanding of structural determination using NMR and MS techniques and proficient with a range of chromatography methods (e.g. HPLC, RP HPLC, ion exchange, size exclusion chromatography)

Responsibilities

• Design, synthesis, purification and characterization of novel organic linkers, peptides, and payloads for antibody drug conjugates.
• Design, synthesis, purification, and characterization of antibody drug conjugates for therapeutic discovery.
• Review, analyze, and interpret scientific data and results; provide regular updates, documentation, and/or communication on project results.
