About The Position

DEFTEC Corporation is seeking a Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (CBRN) Senior Scientist to support threat analysis operations for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Office of Countering Weapons of Mass Destruction (CWMD). This position is located at the St. Elizabeths Campus in Washington, D.C. and is on-site. The Senior Scientist will serve as an all-source intelligence analyst and subject matter expert (SME), producing finished intelligence products, supporting high-level executive briefings, and engaging with interagency partners across the federal government and Intelligence Community (IC). This role demands a scientist with deep CBRN domain expertise who can translate complex technical and intelligence data into actionable analysis for senior decision-makers.

Requirements

  • Active Top Secret/SCI clearance; must be able to operate in a SCIF environment on-site at St. Elizabeths Campus
  • B.A. or M.S. in a scientific, engineering, medical, veterinary, or public health field
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in a scientific, engineering, medical, veterinary, or public health field
  • 4+ years supporting major programs or system development efforts related to human, animal, or plant health and the medical consequences of CBRN events; or equivalent experience across HS pillars of prevention, protection, response, and recovery
  • Demonstrated experience producing all-source finished intelligence products at the classified level in compliance with IC analytic tradecraft standards
  • Proficiency with the DHS CWMD CW-2 Tool Suite or equivalent government intelligence tracking and reporting platforms
  • Working knowledge of biosurveillance frameworks, the NBIS, and interagency biological and chemical reporting processes
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills; ability to brief senior, non-technical officials on complex CBRN threat topics

Responsibilities

  • Conduct daily unclassified and classified intelligence reporting of CBRN threats to the Homeland in support of DHS CWMD requirements
  • Author and finalize all-source finished intelligence products covering CBRN threats to the Homeland
  • Draft and contribute to annual Program of Analysis (POA) products in accordance with DHS CWMD priorities
  • Serve as lead author or co-author on flagship intelligence assessments covering biological and chemical threats to the Homeland
  • Develop briefing slides and presentation packages to support leadership communications and stakeholder briefings
  • Provide SME support for senior leadership intelligence briefings
  • Respond to time-sensitive taskers and Requests for Information (RFIs) from senior officials
  • Represent DHS CWMD on interagency biosurveillance and threat reporting calls
  • Participate in IC and interagency forums to discuss current CBRN threats
  • Engage with federal, state, and local partners to share situational awareness and support CWMD mission requirements
  • Conduct peer review of draft intelligence products to ensure analytical rigor and tradecraft compliance
  • Develop and deliver subject matter expertise in support of CWMD training requirements
  • Coordinate and manage the preparation of analysis, evaluations, and recommendations in support of DHS CWMD requirements
