About The Position

This is a full-time position that requires daily in-office and performs field work as needed at our facilities located throughout Broward County. This position requires current authorization to work in the United States without employer sponsorship. The Department of Health is unable to provide employment visa sponsorship. This is an OPS (Other Personal Services) position and as such no paid time off is offered. Health benefits will be offered for full-time employment. OPS employees are eligible to participate in a deferred compensation plan. We request that all applications be completed with People First - no faxed or mailed applications to the agency. Requirements

  • Willing to work before, during and/or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency.

  • This position is a full-time, in-office position and perform field work as needed. You must be willing to physically come in the office to perform the duties & responsibilities of the positions.
  • Experience developing workplace safety procedures.
  • Experience ensuring compliance with safety regulations.
  • Experience inspecting facilities for hazards.
  • Valid driver’s license free of major infractions and access to an automobile to be utilized for work purposes and receive reimbursement for mileage.
  • Experience providing occupational safety and health presentations.
  • Professional experience writing incidents reports.

Nice To Haves

  • A minimum of one year experience providing occupational safety and health presentations.
  • Certified Risk Manager (CRM) or Certified Professional in Healthcare Risk Management (CPHRM) credential.
  • Experience maintaining workplace safety and regulatory compliance in a government or public sector setting.
  • Bachelor's degree with a major in Risk Management, Occupational Safety & Health, or a related field from an accredited college or university.
  • A minimum of one year work experience conducting workplace investigations and preparing incident reports in an occupational safety and health environment.

Responsibilities

  • Assists DOH-Broward’s Safety Coordinator with all aspects of the operation of the Workplace Safety & Loss Prevention Program.
  • Assists DOH-Broward’s Workers’ Compensation Coordinator with all aspects of the operation of the Workers’ Compensation program.
  • Assists DOH-Broward’s Information Security and Privacy Coordinator with incident reporting.
  • Conducts spot checks and formalized inspections of building facilities and equipment to ensure compliance with all occupational safety and health statutes, rules, regulations, and Department of Health policies and procedures.
  • Conduct fire drills and post drill evaluations.
  • Orient to all new employees on occupational safety and health related issues to include best practices in safe work methods and habits.
  • Investigates reports and complaints concerning employee safety and health, and maintains records and reports of those investigations and inspections.
  • Identify occupational safety and health risks that would cause employee injury and/or financial loss.
  • Recommends corrective action to mitigate identified risks.
  • Provides technical assistance in developing and updating local policies and procedures relating to workplace safety.
  • Facilitates DOH-Broward’s Safety Liaison Program.
  • Performs other related duties as may be assigned or directed.
