About The Position

This position is within Ford Motor Company's Sustainability, Environment & Safety group. The Senior Safety Investigations Engineer – Software and Electronics will be a key contributor to advancing critical initiatives such as product safety, emissions, fuel economy, and vehicle recycling. The role involves leading internal and external safety defect investigations for vehicle software and electronic hardware defects, including compliance investigations, and identifying concerns with global impact. The engineer will collaborate with regional peers for resolution, work with facing organizations to develop and conduct special tests and field surveys to assess potential safety and compliance issues, and prepare presentations and reports for various leadership levels. The role also includes proactive work with NHTSA and TC on government investigations and compliance audits, collaboration on service solutions, maintaining investigation documentation, and identifying lessons-learned opportunities to prevent future recalls.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering or Electronic Engineering
• 5 years of progressive, post-baccalaureate experience in the job offered or a related occupation.
• 2 years of experience with Functional safety experience implementing ISO 2626-3, -4, -5, -6, -7 standards applied to an ADAS project.
• 2 years of experience with Functional safety experience implementing ISO 26262-9, -10 standards resulting in completion of the safety analysis using both qualitative and quantitative analysis methods for an ADAS project.
• 2 years of experience interfacing with state or federal regulatory agencies developing safety standards.
• 2 years of experience conducting technical reviews including verification of work products.
• 1 year of experience developing and reviewing FMEA and FTA analysis for automotive systems.
• 1 year of experience developing requirements utilizing MBSE.
• 1 year of experience developing process/procedures supporting implementation of SOTIF Standard ISO PAS 21448.

Responsibilities

• Lead internal and external safety defect investigations for vehicle software and electronic hardware defects, including compliance investigations.
• Identify concerns with global impact and work with regional CCRG peers in the resolution of potential concerns.
• Work with facing organizations to develop and conduct special tests, field surveys, etc., to help assess the necessary facts in the evaluation of potential safety and compliance issues.
• Prepare presentations and reports, including engineering analysis and the coordination of special vehicle/component demonstrations, to be used in both technical and non-technical discussions with all levels of leadership.
• Work proactively with NHTSA and TC on government investigations and compliance audits.
• Collaborate with facing organizations in the development of service solutions for potential field issues.
• Create and maintain investigation documentation in accordance with document retention guidelines and submit regulatory documentation as necessary.
• Identify potential lessons-learned opportunities in support of the company’s efforts to prevent future potential recalls through involvement in stop ships, Prevent Action Closures, Campaign Trends Task Force meetings, SDS development, and other initiatives.
