About The Position

As a Senior Threat Investigator on the Safety Investigations team, you will help lead Roblox’s deep-dive investigative capability for the most severe, complex, and externally significant safety matters. You will conduct actor-centric and network-centric investigations, proactively identify sophisticated threat actors and abuse patterns, and develop high-quality investigative work product that supports internal decision-making and, where appropriate, external law-enforcement engagement. The ideal candidate will have an exceptional investigations background, strong analytical tradecraft, and a demonstrated ability to connect fragmented internal and external signals into clear, defensible investigative findings. They will be an innovative self-starter, a collaborative partner across functions, and someone motivated by Roblox’s mission of connecting a billion people with optimism and civility. Through your work, you will become an expert in Roblox’s internal and external safety practices, advance our investigative capabilities and playbooks, and work across a variety of systems and data sources to surface, analyze, and ultimately disrupt high-risk actors, networks, and behaviors. Please note: This role will require reviewing graphic, controversial, and offensive content in accordance with Roblox’s handling policies. This role may also require participation in an on-call rotation during weekends and holidays.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of experience conducting complex investigations in law enforcement, intelligence, trust and safety, cybersecurity, or an adjacent field.
  • Significant experience conducting deep-dive, attribution-focused, or threat-led investigations involving sophisticated actors, broader networks, or cross-platform harms.
  • Advanced Proficiency using SQL and/or Python, large datasets, and open-source intelligence in an investigative context.
  • Strong experience synthesizing fragmented evidence into clear, defensible investigative narratives and recommendations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to produce polished work product and influence cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Strong judgment in navigating legal, policy, reputational, and operational considerations in sensitive investigative matters.
  • Agility to navigate ambiguity, resilience to overcome obstacles, and the internal drive to manage multiple high-profile, time-sensitive initiatives in a dynamic environment.
  • A track record of proactively identifying gaps, developing new investigative approaches, and improving operational effectiveness over time.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct deep-dive investigations into severe abuse on and around the platform, including cases involving child exploitation, violent extremism, organized criminal activity, and other complex abuse ecosystems.
  • Perform actor-centric and network-centric investigations that connect activity across accounts, services, platforms, and other relevant data sources.
  • Proactively hunt for threats, undetected abuse, and emerging risk patterns by leveraging internal datasets, open-source intelligence, and other investigative resources.
  • Apply analytical rigor to investigations while identifying strategic opportunities to improve systems, tools, processes, and detection capabilities.
  • Develop proactive leads from intelligence reporting, law enforcement indicators, media reporting, partner referrals, and open-source research.
  • Draft professional investigative work product for internal and external audiences, supported by clear, concise, and multi-sourced evidence.
  • Prepare complex referrals, supplements, strategic write-ups, and post-mortems that can withstand external scrutiny.
  • Partner cross-functionally with Legal, Safety Intelligence, Law Enforcement Operations, Product, Engineering, Policy, and other teams to drive high-confidence safety outcomes.
  • Translate investigative findings into concrete recommendations for policy, tooling, product, engineering, and operational improvements.
  • Help build and mature investigative playbooks, templates, standards, and methodologies for the broader Safety Investigations function.
  • Support especially sensitive, high-priority, and time-sensitive escalations with sound judgment, discretion, and urgency.
  • Coach junior teammates on analytic tradecraft and investigative work.
