About The Position

The Senior Risk Control Specialist (SRCS) position is a tele-commuting field position with Wright Public Entity within the Risk Management Department, specifically assigned to Wright Specialty Insurance [WSI]. This position will provide Risk Management services to insureds in the Mountain and Pacific time zones. The SRCS will have risk management and risk control responsibility for insureds located in this geographic region. Responsibilities include performing inspections, risk assessments and evaluations; attending safety committees; arranging regional seminars and conducting insured training. Overnight travel is required. The primary responsibility for this position is to provide consultation, inspections, and training with WSI Insureds. Risk Management activities include, but are not limited to, the following: Risk Management Consultations Conducting surveys of insureds operations to evaluate risks (property, general liability and auto) and the control measures in place Employment practices policies and procedures review Arrange and participate in Webinars for insureds Attend and present at relevant Association Meetings Writing related articles for WSI Risk Management and Association Publications. The SRCS will be responsible for risk assessment, service delivery and management of Charter, public and private K-12 school districts and public and private institutions of higher education. This position requires strong communication skills, providing technical support services to underwriting, marketing, claims, members, agent/broker partners and strategic partners. This position will be field based and the potential candidate will work out of their home office.

Requirements

  • AA/BA/BS degree.
  • At least 8 years of public sector safety or commercial risk control, safety, or fire protection experience.
  • Risk control policies, practices and procedures.
  • Understand loss drivers and exposures, general safety, fire and life safety in an educational environment is preferred.
  • Current knowledge of regulatory standards (e.g. OSHA, EPA, DOT) and both state and national codes (e.g. NFPA) and other standards and guidelines developed by Federal and/or State agencies.
  • Strong organizational, time and technical skills are required to perform these tasks for a variety of insureds in a geographic region.
  • Strong relationship, marketing and consulting skills required to interact with insureds employees; agents/brokers; college and school district counsel and Wright Public Entity teammates.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, ability to operate a personal computer and other business equipment, prioritize work, and meet deadlines are essential elements of the job.

Nice To Haves

  • Occupational/industrial safety, engineering, fire science or safety related degree preferred.
  • Attainment of Associate in Risk Management, (ARM); Associate in Risk Management for Public Entities, (ARM-P): Associate Safety Professional [ASP]; Graduate Safety Professional [GSP] or Certified Safety Professional, (CSP) desired.
  • Additionally, the certification as a CPSI, [Certified Playground Safety Inspector] is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct on-site surveys to perform risk assessments, evaluate exposures to loss, deliver service, and conduct training for insureds.
  • Provide new business prospect reports and marketing support for potential new business.
  • Plan, develop and recommend risk control services for insureds.
  • Develop and implement with minimum oversight, the plans, programs and controls necessary to assure retention and growth.
  • Maintain open communications with insureds; insurance professionals; school/college attorneys; teammates and others.
  • Assist other internal departments, agents/brokers and insureds in resolving technical questions regarding exposure assessment and risk mitigation.
  • Be able to work independently.
  • Perform other activities, duties and responsibilities, as assigned.
