About The Position

The Risk & Control Specialist is responsible for supporting risk and control activities across Sovereign Insurance. This role focuses on preparing oversight documentation, maintaining risk registers, and ensuring processes and governance materials are kept accurate and up to date. The Risk & Control Specialist gathers and analyzes risk and control data to support assessments, tracks follow‑ups and identifies trends that inform proactive risk insights including testing and monitoring of key controls.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Public Policy, Economics, Finance, Insurance, or a related field.
  • 3 to 5 years of experience in risk management, insurance, or public policy environments.
  • Strong knowledge of operational, IT, and third-party risk management, regulatory compliance, and business continuity practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to assess risk and control frameworks, identify gaps, and contribute to risk assessments and mitigation strategies.
  • Excellent attention to detail, communication, and time management skills, with the ability to work independently while maintaining confidentiality and building credibility with both business and technical stakeholders.

Nice To Haves

  • French language is an asset.
  • Professional certifications such as Canadian Risk Management, Professional Risk Manager, or Operational Risk Manager are considered an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Developing and maintaining risk and control documentation, including processes, workflows, governance materials, and support for review and testing activities.
  • Preparing dashboards, presentations, and reports that provide clear insights into risk exposure and control effectiveness for decision making.
  • Managing and maintaining a centralized risk register, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and integrity of all reported data.
  • Partnering with stakeholders and subject matter experts to gather data, validate control objectives, and ensure alignment with risk management requirements.
  • Assessing control design and effectiveness by identifying gaps, challenging assumptions, and recommending improvements.
  • Tracking, documenting, and following up on remediation actions to ensure timely resolution of identified issues and risk gaps.
  • Conducting ongoing monitoring and testing of controls, operational risk events, and incident response activities in line with established standards.
  • Analyzing risk trends and providing proactive insights while supporting audit readiness through thorough documentation and reporting.
