About The Position

Serves as the senior underwriter for the Retail and Small Business Loan Groups. The role underwrites retail consumer and small business loan applications, evaluates creditworthiness and collateral, and supports sound lending decisions in compliance with bank policies and regulatory requirements. It also assists the Retail Lending Manager with staff collaboration, training, and loan-related questions and exceptions.

Requirements

• Minimum 3 years of consumer and small business underwriting experience, or equivalent loan production experience.
• Minimum 5 years of banking experience.
• Strong consumer and small business credit skills.
• Understanding of regulatory and compliance issues regarding loans.
• Knowledge of bank loan policies and procedures.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficiency in Word and Excel.
• Professional appearance and demeanor.

Responsibilities

• Underwrite retail consumer and small business loan applications originated by Retail and Small Business Group employees by analyzing creditworthiness, collateral position, and debt-to-income or cash-flow ratios.
• Perform a second review of denied consumer and small business applications.
• Assist the Retail Lending Manager in working with Retail Credit Underwriter(s), Credit Administration, and the Chief Risk Officer to comply with bank lending policies and support quality loan decisions.
• Assist the Loan Documentation group, branches, and Small Business lenders with questions about documentation, pricing, and loan-request structure.
• Approve collateral release and subordination requests, and review and approve rate and guideline exceptions when warranted for Retail and Small Business group employees.
• Assist the Retail Lending Manager with formal training of Retail and Small Business employees when needed.
• Support the Bank’s mission, vision, and philosophy; comply with organizational policies and procedures; support regulatory compliance; and meet portfolio profitability targets.
