About The Position

Sompo has an opportunity for a Senior Reserving Actuary on its North America Reserving team. Reporting to the Head of Reserving, North America Insurance, the role contributes to reserve valuation, financial insights, and management reporting across North America and Bermuda. The successful candidate will work with a collaborative team responsible for direct business in the region and partner with reserving leaders and shared actuarial resources to support strategic decision-making and business performance. The position is based in Sompo’s New York, NY office.

Requirements

Minimum of 10 years of actuarial experience in the P&C insurance industry or a consulting environment.
ACAS designation required.
Strong communication and relationship-building skills, including the ability to influence business decisions and present actuarial insights to senior leadership, underwriting partners, and Board-level stakeholders.
Ability to lead complex projects, manage competing priorities, and deliver high-quality results in a fast-paced environment.
Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills, with experience using actuarial modeling, data analytics, and programming tools to drive business outcomes.
Collaborative and self-motivated, with strong business acumen and demonstrated ability to partner across functions in support of strategic objectives.

Responsibilities

Assist with the quarterly actuarial central estimate (ACE) reserving process for US and Bermuda lines of business within the Insurance Segment.
Build relationships across Actuarial, including the pricing team, and with Risk, Claims, Finance, and Financial Planning & Analysis to deepen understanding of Sompo International’s business and processes.
Lead special projects to develop a deeper understanding of trends and emerging risks within the Insurance portfolio.
Use ACE analysis to support the Group Chief Reserving Actuary in the annual planning process, as required.
Stay current on regulatory requirements and market developments that may affect Sompo International’s Insurance business.
Support other special projects as required by the business.
