Senior Research Scientist

UNC-Chapel Hill•Chapel Hill, NC

About The Position

The Senior Research Scientist will provide scientific leadership for a multi-year cancer immunotherapy program advancing AI-designed cancer vaccines and immunotherapies from discovery through clinical translation. Reporting to the Director of Clinical and Translational Sciences, the role leads the design, execution, and validation of research initiatives to identify tumor-specific peptide-MHC targets, evaluate novel vaccine platforms, and develop targeted RNA delivery technologies. The position oversees the generation and integration of molecular, immunologic, and clinical datasets, aligning computational discoveries with experimental validation and translational objectives. It provides strategic direction for research design, data quality, and scientific priorities; coordinates multidisciplinary laboratory, computational, and clinical research teams; and monitors milestones throughout the four-year funding period. The Senior Research Scientist contributes to scientific publications, grant reporting, protocol development, and future funding initiatives. The role also supports shared research resources, including validated target datasets, research protocols, and therapeutic delivery platforms, and fosters collaborations with institutional, national, and international research partners. The position acts as a collaborator and co-investigator on grants and publications and supports the institution’s priorities in precision oncology, translational science, and personalized cancer immunotherapy.
