About The Position

The Infectious Diseases Division seeks a Senior Research Investigator to join Dr. Katharine Bar’s translational HIV research lab focused on understanding HIV persistence during therapy and advancing cure strategies. The role involves designing and conducting molecular virology experiments (e.g., PCR, sequencing, cloning, and cell culture assays), analyzing data, contributing to manuscripts, and collaborating on research projects. Candidates should have a PhD with relevant postdoctoral experience, strong communication skills, experience with viral and biospecimen work, and a willingness to mentor trainees.

Requirements

  • Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Philosophy, and 5 to 7 years of postdoctoral experience is required.
  • Experience with molecular biology and sequencing is required.
  • Strong computer skills are essential.
  • Candidates must be detail-oriented with excellent communication and interpersonal skills including when working closely students; ability to multi-task; and flexibility to shift focus between multiple projects as needed.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with viruses in cell culture strongly preferred.
  • Experience processing biospecimens, including blood and tissues is preferred.
  • Prior experience working with viruses and BSL II agents is preferred.
  • HIV research experience preferred.
  • Applicants with prior publications and presentations in biomedical science preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Design, perform and analyze molecular virology experiments, including sequencing, cloning, and infectivity assays
  • Perform cell culture based assays to assess virus phenotype
  • Process biospecimens
  • Analyze, synthesize, generate figures and communicate results of experiments
  • Supervise students and technicians
  • Assist in ordering, lab management, and regulatory compliance issues
  • Other duties as assigned
