We are hiring immediately for a Senior Research Engineer (full-time) to join the UTHealth Houston School of Public Health in Houston, Tx. This position supports the Texas Firefighter Cancer Study. In this position, you will conduct lab and field experiments, manage data collection and analysis, and ensure reliable study results. The ideal candidate should have prior experience in applied engineering, time management, and planning. Experience using GC-MS/MS to support laboratory method development, optimization, and troubleshooting is highly preferred. What we do here changes the world. Position Summary: Performs advanced engineering functions related to independent research projects and collaborates with multidisciplinary researchers in science or engineering. Designs, coordinates, and conducts research laboratory experiments, develops and implements new methodologies, and provides technical expertise for laboratory operations and field-based research activities. Experience using GC-MS/MS to support laboratory method development, optimization, and troubleshooting is required.

Requirements

  • Experience using GC-MS/MS to support laboratory method development, optimization, and troubleshooting is required.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Computer and Information Science or other applied sciences required
  • 4 years of experience in applied research experience or related field required
  • Employees must permanently reside and work in the State of Texas.

  • Knowledge of GC-MS/MS instrumentation and analytical method development.

Responsibilities

  • Conceptualize, design, build, program, and test experimental systems and research tools.
  • Provide technical engineering expertise in laboratory experiments, field data collection, and analysis.
  • Develop, optimize, validate, and troubleshoot analytical methods using GC-MS/MS to support research objectives.
  • Set up, modify, and maintain laboratory experiments and instrumentation.
  • Coordinate laboratory utilization and equipment sharing among researchers.
  • Research, evaluate, and recommend laboratory equipment and supplies.
  • Assist with instrumentation development and integration of new technologies.
  • Develop and maintain research database quality controls and coordinate data management implementation.
  • Modify computer software, fabricate adapters and mounts, and use power tools as needed.
  • Work independently while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
