About The Position

UBC's Department of Psychiatry is an internationally recognized academic unit that develops and implements cutting-edge research, clinical and implementation projects in the field of mental health and substance use. We work closely with decision-makers, the community, and other stakeholders to answer key challenges referred to basic science, clinical practice, health systems, population mental health, and epidemiology. Our goal is to improve delivery of mental health and substance use services to ultimately impact health outcomes of people from BC, Canada, and globally. As an expert in development and design of digital mental health interventions with extensive background in public mental health issues, the Senior Research Coordinator will provide research oversight for various projects within the Mental Health Systems and Services Laboratory. The incumbent will align with the PI's leadership in the conceptualizing, implementation and evaluation of research activities and deliverables of the lab, supervise junior research staff and trainees, and act as a consultant to collaborators and external stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline.

Nice To Haves

  • Graduate degree preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience related to research project coordination, management, and administration is preferred.
  • Scientific writing (including reports, grants, peer reviewed publications).
  • Experience in qualitative and quantitative epidemiologic research methods, analysis and study design.
  • Experience with social media, web development, and e-mental health.
  • Applied and academic knowledge of mental health and addictions clinical research.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and plan novel research projects on digital mental health interventions and mental illness and substance use concerns, lead the lab in execution of these projects, ensuring alignment with stakeholders’ goals.
  • Integrate AI in the Minder App and develop adapted content for e-intervention tools for its user subset.
  • Lead novel conceptualization and design of safety and privacy safeguards applicable for the use of Natural Language Processing in chatbots.
  • Develop standards, definitions and codes for digital interventions and other mental health and substance use services for use across multiple Health Authorities and government.
  • Create evidence-based e-intervention content and oversee its use in developing digital tools to support other populations with mental health and substance use challenges.
  • Liaise with stakeholders to keep abreast of emerging fields on novel innovation focusing on, but not limited to, digital interventions in health care, methodologies for NLP-integration, leveraging of online tools, and mental health issues.
  • Serve as technical advisor to internal and external collaborators on design efficacy of digital mental health interventions, data analysis, management, and security compliance, study design and interpretation, in the context of public mental health support.
  • Write and edit documents related to study design and implementation, including protocols, service standards, as well technical reports for stakeholders and knowledge translation documents for the public. This involves background research on specific issues (e.g., program evaluation; systematic, scoping, or targeted reviews related to specific disorders and their treatment, etc.).
  • Oversee the implementation of projects’ timelines and workplans, ensuring the projects are on track and meet the expected milestones, outputs and deliverables, and exercising independent judgment in key decision-making areas.
  • Act as a mentor to junior research staff, trainees, and volunteers, providing recommendations to the PI on effective deployment of team’s knowledge and skillset to advance projects.
  • Provide logistical and administrative oversight for all research projects within the lab, including liaising with UBC ethics, Office of Research Services and the University-Industry Liaison Office.
