About The Position

The Planning & Institutional Effectiveness (PIE) Office furthers the College’s mission and commitment to student success by providing accurate, timely, and actionable information to facilitate evidence-based planning and decision-making to improve institutional effectiveness and support continuous improvement. PIE leads the College’s efforts around accreditation, assessment, data management, grant development, institutional effectiveness, institutional research, and planning. The Institutional Research (IR) function within PIE collects, analyzes, reports, and warehouses quantitative and qualitative data which are used to comply with state and federal regulations, accreditation requirements, support grant proposals and reports, and enhance institutional effectiveness efforts. The Senior Research Analyst in IR plays a key role in supporting data-informed decision making at the College to improve institutional effectiveness and support the Equity-Centered Strategic Plan. Under the general supervision of the Associate Vice President - Planning, Institutional Effectiveness, & Project Management, the Senior Research Analyst will conduct ongoing institutional research and provide timely, accurate, and useful analysis of institutional data. In addition, the Senior Research Analyst will play an essential role in designing and maintaining dynamic reports and dashboards of key performance indicators.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in a research-based discipline.
  • Three (3) years of experience in institutional research or similar research environment.
  • Years in graduate work in related discipline may be substituted for years of experience.
  • Experience with Microsoft or Oracle SQL.
  • Knowledge Of: Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, Outlook and SharePoint.
  • PeopleSoft Query.
  • Excel and PowerPoint (including pivot table, charting, and drawing functions), as well as other standard office applications.
  • Data visualization or business intelligence tools (such as Tableau, PowerBI, or similar).
  • Statistical analysis software/applications (such as Excel, SPSS, and/or R, etc.).
  • Reporting platforms, data development environments, and systems used to support automated and operational reporting (such as SSRS, SQL Report Builder).
  • Survey design tools (such as Survey Monkey).
  • Skill In: Writing or understanding complex data queries; creating tables, views, stored procedures, and indexes
  • Analyzing large, complex datasets with attention to detail and accuracy
  • Translating requests for information into concise questions, identifying the data needed to answer those questions, and presenting results clearly.
  • Creating reports and managing user access to reports.
  • Engaging stakeholders in data, regardless of their previous experience or knowledge of underlying concepts
  • Interpreting applicable laws, regulations, and policies accurately.
  • Fostering a climate of belonging through awareness and responsiveness.
  • Handling sensitive situations using sound independent judgment within legal guidelines.
  • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships at all organizational levels.
  • Collaborating with or leading groups of people in various situations including open discussion, training sessions, workgroups, and committees.

Responsibilities

  • Respond to requests for institutional data, ensuring efficient use of reporting tools and on-going communication of key data points.
  • Support institutional equity goals by providing disaggregated data and analyses.
  • Conduct complex database queries, using tools like SQL.
  • Create and maintain dynamic and accessible data reports and dashboards.
  • Provide guidance and support for collection, analysis, and reporting of survey data.
  • Design and conduct institutional research based on college strategic priorities to inform decision-making.
  • Support ongoing data reporting needs for grant-funded projects and grant proposals.
  • Support required data reporting to state and national agencies, such as IPEDS and annual NWCCU accreditation reporting.
  • Provide support and training across the College to ensure accuracy of data collection and coding.
  • Follow data security and privacy laws, such as FERPA, HIPPA, and COPPA, and lead data governance efforts at the College.
  • Provide training to faculty and staff on the use of data for planning.
  • Support the Associate Vice President – Planning & Institutional Effectiveness, with other projects, as assigned.
