About The Position

The Senior Report Engineer (L3 Specialist) leads the design, development, and optimization of enterprise-level reporting solutions and BI dashboards. The role uses modern BI tools such as Power BI, Tableau, and SSRS, and works with relational databases to develop and maintain SQL queries, stored procedures, and views. The position partners with Business Analysts and stakeholders to translate business needs into technical reporting specifications, validates data and tests deliverables, and provides technical leadership, code reviews, guidance, and mentorship to junior reporting team members. The position is hybrid in Albany, New York.

Requirements

• At least 7 years of total experience working on complex IT or data projects, including at least 2 years in a technical leadership role as a Specialist.
• At least 7 years of hands-on experience in business intelligence, reporting, or data development.
• At least 5 years of advanced SQL development experience with enterprise relational databases, including complex query writing, stored procedures or functions, and performance tuning.

Nice To Haves

• At least 3 years of hands-on PostgreSQL experience, including PL/pgSQL functions, query plan analysis using EXPLAIN/ANALYZE, and indexing strategies.
• At least 3 years of experience with AWS data services such as Amazon RDS/Aurora PostgreSQL, QuickSight, AWS Glue, and Redshift.
• At least 3 years of experience with enterprise ETL tools such as Informatica, SSIS, or Talend.
• At least 1 year of experience building reporting solutions in a public sector or government agency environment.
• A professional BI certification, such as Microsoft Certified: Power BI Data Analyst Associate or Tableau Desktop Certified Professional.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design, development, and performance optimization of complex enterprise reports and interactive dashboards using BI tools such as Power BI, Tableau, and SSRS.
• Write, optimize, and maintain complex SQL queries, stored procedures, and views across relational databases.
• Partner with Business Analysts and stakeholders to translate business needs into technical reporting specifications.
• Perform data validation and end-to-end testing to ensure accuracy of deliverables.
• Serve as a subject matter expert and provide code reviews, technical guidance, and mentorship to junior reporting team members.
