Sr Reliability Engineer - Plumbing and Electrical

Milwaukee Tool•Brookfield, MT

About The Position

The Senior Reliability Engineer contributes to the development and qualification of power tool products, defining test methods, analytical processes, and product requirements to deliver durable, high-performance products. This is a hands-on role requiring an understanding of the use and operation of products and equipment under development. The engineer applies systems engineering, test development, validation, data acquisition, and analytics in a fast-paced product-development environment, and mentors less experienced engineers. The role supports complex power tools for plumbing, electrical, HVACR, and mechanical trades. The engineer serves as a development-team subject matter expert in test methods, product requirements, user needs, and data analytics. They collaborate with product management, design engineering, marketing, users, global engineering teams, suppliers, manufacturing, distribution, and service partners. Responsibilities include identifying risks, supporting multiple projects, developing repeatable test procedures, conducting robustness testing and data analysis, documenting results, and driving root-cause analysis and corrective and preventive actions. The senior engineer also coaches engineers, creates reliability-engineering guidelines and best practices, and guides multidisciplinary teams through design tradeoffs and issue management.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical, mechanical, or a related engineering field.
  • At least 5 years of experience in product development, systems, reliability, test, and/or quality roles.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to influence at all levels.
  • Creative problem-solving capabilities.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to support multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to travel 5–10%, including domestic and international travel.

  • Experience with test development and design verification and validation.
  • Experience with HALT, accelerated life, and other reliability test methods.
  • Experience with life data analysis, reliability distributions, and related software such as Minitab or Reliasoft Weibull++.
  • Hands-on experience with data acquisition systems, data analytics, and related software such as Python, nCode Glyphworks, or Dewesoft.
  • Knowledge of systems engineering fundamentals and requirements management, with demonstrated ability to lead a primary function within a project team.
  • Knowledge or experience with residential and commercial construction phases and associated equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a subject matter expert on the development team for test methods, product requirements, user needs, and data analytics.
  • Manage user needs and design requirements in collaboration with product management and through participation in user research.
  • Collaborate with design engineers and marketing to define product specifications for reliable life, durability, quality, features, and other user needs.
  • Design experimental and analytical techniques to improve product development, testing, and qualification.
  • Interact with global engineers, suppliers, manufacturing, distribution, and service partners supporting product development.
  • Identify risks through critical thinking, data analysis, design reviews, and test results.
  • Track and support multiple projects to help ensure schedule adherence and Milwaukee Tool quality expectations.
  • Develop test methods and repeatable procedures for global test labs to evaluate product performance against user and design requirements.
  • Document test plans, procedures, schedules, and risk-mitigation plans.
  • Support creation of complex test fixtures, GR&R, and correlation studies that meet project cost and schedule requirements.
  • Execute robustness tests to evaluate product durability.
  • Analyze, post-process, and visualize test data, reliability growth, and demonstration results.
  • Summarize test results using statistical techniques and present concise, logical written or verbal conclusions.
  • Ensure timely failure reporting and drive root-cause analysis and effective corrective and preventive actions with stakeholders.
  • Coach and support other engineers through the power-tool development process and reliability-engineering deliverables.
  • Create guidelines and best practices to improve reliability-engineering efficiency across the business.
