About The Position

Solaris Energy Infrastructure is seeking a Reliability Engineer to own the reliability, availability, and lifecycle management of an assigned bank of power-generation assets, including gas turbines, generators, SCR and emissions systems, balance-of-plant equipment, and switchgear. The engineer serves as the technical point of contact for reliability concerns, working with site teams, OEMs, company leadership, and specialists to investigate issues, establish corrective actions, and prevent repeat failures. The position focuses primarily on remote monitoring and analysis, with approximately 30–40% travel to assigned facilities. The engineer reviews equipment alerts and trends, troubleshoots trips and derates, leads root cause analyses, evaluates OEM service bulletins, supports maintenance planning and critical-spares decisions, and helps develop warranty claims. The role also partners with the data-science team to improve alerts, models, and dashboards, and contributes technical input to overhaul scope, lifecycle costs, and OPEX/CAPEX planning. The position reports to the Reliability Manager and works closely with Operations, maintenance planners, Supply Chain, OEM representatives, and the data-science team. It is a remote U.S. position, and living near a major airport is required. The schedule is standard business hours, with after-hours escalation support when site events require it. Site work takes place in outdoor industrial and plant environments, including conditions with heat, cold, and noise, and requires PPE.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or electrical engineering and at least 5 years of relevant experience.
  • Relevant experience in reliability, maintenance, field service, operations-support, or product-support engineering on gas turbines, other rotating equipment, or power-generation assets.
  • Prior gas turbine experience.
  • Prior field engineering experience, such as in oil and gas, power generation, or utilities.
  • Working knowledge of a turbine-generator package and its auxiliaries, including generator, SCR/emissions, switchgear, and balance of plant.
  • Demonstrated root cause analysis and troubleshooting experience on rotating or electrical equipment, using methods such as 5-Whys, fault tree, and FMEA.
  • Experience with maintenance planning and a CMMS or EAM system.
  • Ability to analyze equipment trends, alarms, and KPIs from equipment logs, remotely captured data, and SCADA systems.
  • Ability to work at industrial sites requiring CAT 2 FR around medium-voltage equipment.
  • Authorization to work in the United States.
  • Ability to work remotely in the U.S.; living near a major airport is required.
  • Ability to travel approximately 30–40% of working time, mostly to assigned sites.
  • Knowledge of gas turbine operation, performance, and failure modes, including compressor, combustion, hot section, bearings, lube oil, fuel gas, and controls.
  • Knowledge of synchronous generators, excitation and protection, medium-voltage switchgear, and protective relays.
  • Knowledge of SCR and emissions systems, including NOx and ammonia control and permit limits.
  • Knowledge of balance-of-plant systems, including inlet and exhaust, cooling, fuel-gas conditioning, compressed air, and enclosures.
  • Ability to read P&IDs and electrical one-lines and interpret controller, HMI, relay, and vibration data.
  • Knowledge of reliability methods and metrics, including RCA, FMEA, reliability-centered maintenance, Weibull analysis, availability, MTBF, and MTTR.
  • Knowledge of OEM service bulletins, warranty terms, long-term service agreements, and CMMS/EAM practices.
  • Ability to write and brief clearly for site teams, engineers, and executives.
  • Ability to work independently in a remote setting and manage competing priorities across sites.
  • Ability to build trust with Operations, Supply Chain, and OEM counterparts and influence without direct authority.
  • Sound judgment on safety and risk, with safety at the forefront of decision-making.
  • Ability to learn new equipment quickly and work as a generalist across disciplines.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills, with a record of building coalitions and avoiding conflicts.
  • Proactive ownership, independent thinking, willingness to improve processes, adaptability, collaboration, humility, and persistence.

Nice To Haves

  • Expertise in gas turbine package operation, maintenance, and overhaul, such as Solar Turbines, Baker Hughes, GE Vernova, or Siemens.
  • Hands-on exposure to reciprocating engines or battery energy storage systems.
  • Prior rotating-equipment, reliability, or fleet-engineer experience at an operator, oil and gas company, or OEM.
  • Experience with SCR/emissions systems, CEMS, and air-permit compliance.
  • Experience with warranty claims, LTSAs, or OEM service agreements.
  • Experience supporting prime-power or mission-critical loads, such as data centers or remote oilfield power.
  • Familiarity with OEM remote-monitoring tools, Power BI dashboards, and condition-monitoring analytics.
  • Experience with at least one control system architecture, such as Allen Bradley, Mark 6e, or powerMAX.

Responsibilities

  • Own reliability, availability, MTBF, forced-outage rate, and health scores for equipment in an assigned asset base.
  • Remotely monitor PLC/SCADA data, triage alerts, and determine when proactive intervention is required.
  • Maintain a risk-ranked list of bad actors, repeat failures, aging components, and open reliability actions.
  • Partner with the data-science team on data cleansing, anomaly models, alert thresholds, and dashboards.
  • Report performance through fleet performance reports, KPI dashboards, and leadership reliability reviews.
  • Interface with OEM representatives to drive improvements in the assigned asset base.
  • Troubleshoot turbine, generator, emissions, electrical, and balance-of-plant systems remotely and on site using OEM and in-house monitoring and diagnostic tools.
  • Serve as the engineering organization’s technical escalation point for field issues that may affect similar installations.
  • Provide technical input on planned maintenance, overhauls, forced outages, return-to-service decisions, and post-event reviews.
  • Lead root cause analyses on trips, forced outages, and repeat failures; document findings and track corrective actions to closure.
  • Build and maintain an action-items database for assigned equipment and provide tasks to maintenance planners to improve equipment performance and durability.
  • Share lessons learned with OEMs and Engineering to drive product-design and plant-standardization improvements.
  • Review applicable OEM service bulletins and advisory documents, assess risks, and drive actions with Operations and maintenance teams.
  • Own the bulletin compliance log for assigned assets and report its status to the Reliability Manager.
  • Advise maintenance planners on bulletin-driven PM changes, condition-based maintenance intervals, and additional scope beyond routine maintenance.
  • Use root cause findings and condition data to shape overhaul scope and timing, and OPEX/CAPEX forecasts.
  • Identify critical spare parts required to maintain reliability and availability for the assigned asset base.
  • Support CMMS data quality and ensure critical intervention data is captured and stored.
  • Supply reliability data to lifecycle-cost models and consult on maintenance-program strategy.
  • Own the technical and root cause aspects of warranty claims, including failure analysis, evidence, downtime impact, and verification of OEM remedies, and support claims through closure.
  • Set technical quality standards for third-party maintenance, repair, and overhaul vendors and review their work.
  • Verify OEM technical deliverables against specification.
  • Travel approximately 30–40% of working time, mostly to assigned sites, and provide after-hours escalation support when site events require it.
