About The Position

Under basic supervision, oversees and leads a variety of recreation programs and events; performs a variety of tasks in support of the assigned area and program. This role involves supervising and leading the day-to-day operations of assigned recreation programs and activities, assembling necessary supplies, taking attendance, observing participants, enforcing rules and safety procedures, and participating in facility set-up, clean-up, and sanitation. Specific to the climbing assignment, this role includes conducting facility orientations, participant safety briefings, instructions on proper use of climbing equipment, ensuring climber safety, enforcing climbing gym policies, performing safety checks of equipment, administering belay proficiency tests, conducting various climbing classes and events, assisting with opening and closing duties, responding to emergencies, administering first-aid, and providing excellent customer service to foster an inclusive climbing environment.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED equivalent
1-3 years of experience in recreation programs or working with children
Must possess or have ability to obtain a valid Wyoming/Idaho Driver’s License and maintain an acceptable driving record.
CPR and First Aid Certification or the ability to obtain certification.
Knowledge of recreation site safety rules and regulations.
Knowledge of methods of program planning and implementation.
Knowledge of principles, practices, and methods of conflict resolution and problem solving.
Skills in establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with coworkers and other individuals in contact during the course of work; communicating clearly and concisely
Skills in assessing, prioritizing, and completing multiple tasks and demands simultaneously.
Skills in administering basic first aid.
Knowledge of indoor climbing safety practices and equipment.
Ability to supervise participants and enforce safety policies.
Strong communication and customer service skills.
Ability to teach and demonstrate proper climbing and belaying techniques.
Ability to remain calm and respond effectively in emergency situations.

Nice To Haves

Previous top rope and lead climbing/belaying experience preferred.
Preferred certification: Climbing Wall Instructor Certification provided by Climbing Wall Association

Responsibilities

Supervises and leads the day-to-day operations of assigned recreation programs and activities.
Assembles necessary supplies for each activity.
May take attendance for assigned group and records names of participants who are not in attendance; calls participants or parents to verify absences as necessary.
Oversees, leads, and assists with various activities; observes participants during program; enforces rules and safety procedures; implements disciplinary actions as necessary.
Participates in facility or venue set-up, clean-up, and sanitation.
Supports the relationship between the Teton County staff and the general public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with visitors and County staff.
Maintains confidentiality of work-related issues and County information.
Conduct facility orientations, participant safety briefings, and instructions on proper use of climbing equipment.
Ensure the safety of climbers through active supervision and monitoring.
Enforce and follow climbing gym policies and procedures.
Perform safety checks of harnesses, ropes, belay devices, anchors, and other climbing equipment.
Administer top rope and lead belay proficiency tests.
Conduct belay classes, private lessons, youth programs, special events, recurring programs, and group events.
Assist with opening and closing responsibilities while maintaining the cleanliness and organization of the climbing gym area.
Respond appropriately to emergencies and follow facility Emergency Action Plans (EAP).
Administer basic first-aid response and accurately complete incident reports when necessary.
Provide excellent customer service and foster a supportive and inclusive climbing environment.
