About The Position

The Athletics Compliance Inspector plays a key role in ensuring the safe, effective, and policy-compliant operation of Hillsborough County’s youth and adult sports programs. This position serves as a field-based liaison between the Athletics Division and partner organizations, helping monitor league and rent adherence to field use agreements, safety guidelines, and required documentation. In addition to compliance oversight, the role supports general recreation leadership duties, including light facility maintenance, site safety, and customer service at staff-managed parks.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of general office policies, practices and procedures.
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of planning and conducting athletic recreational programs.
  • Knowledge of proper English usage, vocabulary, spelling, punctuation and grammar.
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions required in the recreation field.
  • An ability to answer questions and resolve problem situations or refer to an appropriate office.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and persuasively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to participate effectively in the formulation of departmental policies and procedures.
  • Ability to work effectively with others.
  • Ability to plan, organize and oversee the work of others.
  • Ability to set priorities, meet deadlines and multi-task.
  • Ability to use a computer and related software.
  • Skill in the use of various office equipment.
  • Skill in operating vehicles and equipment in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Graduation from high school or possession of a GED certificate.
  • One year of experience in recreation, sports, childcare, customer service, compliance, or special events.
  • An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that would reasonably be expected to provide the job-related competencies.
  • Must obtain First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certification with Practical Application within 6 months of employment.
  • Possession of a valid Florida Driver’s License.
  • Maintain the ability to pass the background checks required for the position. These background checks may include but are not limited to: Criminal History Background Check using Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS), Level 1 and Level 2 Background screening (Ch. 435 Florida Statutes), Child Abuse, Abandonment and Neglect Record Check using the State Automated Child Welfare Information System (SACWIS), Sex Offender and Sexual Predator record check using the list maintained by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE).

Responsibilities

  • Conduct on-site inspections of sports complexes to evaluate league partner compliance with safety, cleanliness, and documentation requirements.
  • Conduct on-site inspections of sports complexes to monitor public use and unauthorized activity.
  • Review and verify compliance with County policies, including background screenings, field use agreements, and incident reporting protocols.
  • Provide detailed inspection reports and assist with follow-up documentation or corrective actions as needed.
  • Act as a visible and professional presence at events to support safe and policy-compliant play.
  • Oversee the opening and closing procedures at staff-managed athletic facilities.
  • Perform light facility maintenance tasks and restroom checks to ensure cleanliness and safety.
  • Monitor field lighting systems and equipment and report issues to Parks Maintenance or Athletics management as appropriate.
  • Provide on-site support for weekend or evening activities as part of a rotating schedule.
  • Assist in the coordination and supervision of recreation activities and public use of athletic fields and facilities.
  • Engage with the public, partner leagues, and community stakeholders to resolve issues and deliver a high level of customer service.
  • Support special events or seasonal programming as assigned.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
